Here is a guide written by weezcake on creating RS videos:

[hide=Long guide on RS videos written by Weezcake]

Updated: 2/27/07

So you want to make videos. Hopefully this'll cut down on the number of "How Do I Make Videos?" threads on the boards.

(Note: If you're on a Mac, scroll to the bottom. I don't use a Mac and I haven't tried them. But they have been suggested to me.)

Step 1. Download and install HyperCam 2.

http://www.hypercam.com

The free version will place "unregistered HyperCam" in the corner of your video. It does not show up on the full (paid) version.

Step 2. Select the Runescape window.

Open HyperCam 2. You will see a window that looks like this:

hypercam1.jpg

You can choose one of the buttons to select your window:

Select Region: This lets you drag your own custom sized window. I selected the Runescape game window only:

hypercam2.jpg

Select Window: This will select the window automatically. Note the white border that appears around the window when you select this option.

Step 3. Settings. (optional)

This step refers to the tabs on the HyperCam.

Hot Keys: Here you can set shortcut buttons. F2 (record/stop), F3 (pause), and F4 (screenshot, in pause mode) are set by default.

AVI File: Here you can set settings relating to the video file itself (where clips are saved to, Frames Per Second, record sound)

Sound: Option to record sound or not. By default, sound is not recorded.

Other Options: Options relating to your mouse and screen notes.

License: Information about your license. Important if you want to upgrade to the pay version, etc.

Step 4. Record + Edit.

Once you've messed with all the settings and have selected an appropriate window, press F2 to start recording (for default settings). Press F2 again to stop recording. By default, your videos will be saved to the "My Documents" folder as [FileTypeNotAllowed]

To edit, most users use Windows Movie Maker (but please, feel free to use your favorite).

WMM is located in Start -> All Programs -> Accessories

Or C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe, if it's not there.

Step 5. Uploading your movie

I'm assuming you made the movie so that other people could watch it. You have two options;

*youtube (lower quality, but much easier)

*Filefront (full quality, requires users to download video before watching)

*MegaUpload

Upload the file to the site of your choice and post the link in your thread!

Other programs:

CamStudio (recommended, but I haven't tried this yet. Free/open source)

Fraps (for client-based games, such as Battlefield 2 or World of Warcraft) [30 second clips for free version]

Camtasia (30 day free trial, tutorial posted here)

ZD Soft Screen Recorder (5 minute limit w/ watermark on free version)

Mac Programs:

iShowU

Display Eater

(If someone could write up a good tutorial for these Mac programs, I will gladly link to them here)

Please post any errors and/or anything I should add. Or suggestions.
