Question on Acceptability?

Featured Replies

Im new to Signature making, and attempted my first pixel sig yesterday, which I immediately deleted. :anxious:

What I want to know is if it is ok to copy images and then paste them in MS paint to use as bases?

Not just retouching the image, like 'ripping', but using another persons image to stimulate your creative juices and be placeholders in your picture? :-s

Please, dont flame.

You wouldn't be able to, it would be ripping.

But you could try to copy that(not exactly though)

Example: If a sig had a volcano in the background with other mountains. You coul make your own version(Sp?) of it

Ya, sort of like that.

Also do you know if it is possible to get 'base' images.

Like ummm, back grounds that are just like vauge out lines, that you can use as templates?

Also is that acceptable?

If someone creates a template of something, say fire(I saw someone post one in a recent thread) then if you ask the person premission to use it and they say yes, then yes you can.

A template is something that somone makes to help them out, like the fire template. When the person who created it makes fire they can get colors and designs of the fire from it.

Well I dont consider it ripping unless you actually use the persons image. If you paste it on your paint and use it just to get your creative juices flowing but don't copy it then you should be fine.

Ripping is simply using somebody elses work (that you have no rights to) and passing it off as your own. Tracing is usually still considered ripping by most artists.

If you plan to use somebody elses work as a base, I'd suggest asking permission first. :) However, if you're just going to use it as a reference, then you probably won't need to ask permission.

Just my two cents... :-w

As long as you give credit to the owner, there shouldn't be a problem, and if they really don't want you using it, which is unlikely, then just take it down, and you won't get banned or anything.

Better to ask permission before you start though, just so you're not wasting your time.
