Why I am no longer using Opera.

So I've seen the signatures, heard the hype, and just plain realized that I needed to try Opera.

I was impressed by the security options. However, I've noticed some interesting quirks.

The browser is horrifically unstable. It freezes on me at least 4 times a day. It usually waits until the last 10% of a looooong download. Oh yeah, which brings me to the fact that if the browser closes, all downloads are stopped. Opera is the only browser with this "feature."

I also dislike the shoddy third-rate addons, the lack of a decent weather widget, and the overall superiority of use by Firefox and even IE7.

Security is being a non-issue as I already have addons for both the above that prevent keyloggers and stop scripts.

Well, back to Firefox for me. I really don't see the hype. Feel free to enlighten me.

Opera has never froze for me. I think that's just a personal issue that you have. I do agree about downloading though, I think that it's quite odd and it should be changed. Also, their add-ons and widgets aren't really up to par with Firefox. Overall though, Opera starts up faster than Firefox, and loads images, etc. faster (for me). I like using it. It seems to me that the newer the version of Firefox, the slower it actually gets :-k. From my personal experiences, I'd say that Firefox is no longer what it used to be. IE7 and Opera are both better browsers.

Opera loads pages much more slowly than FF for me. Of course, I also have several addons that do that.

Opera has crashed on me not more than any other program and less times than FF, and I use FF a good 1/100th of the time I use Opera. That is totally irrelevant though, since I have some official MS applications which crash almost every single time I run them.

And if you want shoddy third-rate addons, most of the "must get" widgets people told me to get for FF were in fact pointless crap, bloat if you will, which served zero functionality outside of laziness. And if a weather widget is a must have for you - use Yahoo Widgets, or the Samurize weather script. Both excellent choices.

And duh to IE7 use, it's the browser that comes with Windows, no [cabbage] it's going to be more "popular" than Opera and Firefox. That comment means nothing.

On the side - how long were you using Opera for?

Most up to date on both.

I never said IE7 was more popular. I only use it for playing Runescape.

Darkrick, I test each "addon" and do not clutter up with useless ones. Aside from the weather one (I don't want an out-of-browser one), they are mostly security updates.
