My suggestion is to allow players to recharge their rings of dueling by simply using the spell again. The spell could be cast when ever the ring was degraded. This could possibly work for other rings, for example, the ring of forging.

Anyways, the rings crumble after running out of charges.

I think that since it has eight charges, that the crumble effect is fair.

Emeralds are fairly common, short of Sapphire, and so crumbling helps keep a market for them. The only reason that Dragonstone and Onyx items are rechargeable is because they are so hard to obtain. If a Ring of Dueling were made from a Diamond, for example, I could understand a recharge spell for them. However, being Emeralds are easy to get, a crumble-after-use effect helps keep their market open.
