So if you like to stand there to water your crops every cycle (or like watching paint dry) do NOT pay the farmer because paying him/her guarantees healthy crops. I only water them when I don't pay farmers (tomatoes, flowers). I water them before I leave for the next patch, to give them one "disease-free"cycle. After that, they're on their own. I once had my crops get diseased a split-second after the cycle ended, before I could get a chance to water them. Luckily I had a plant cure with me : .
