July 6, 200719 yr Before the end of my 99 hunter goal, I'm going to be making quite a load of cash. I'm planning to spend half of it on a rare and half of it on other things. However, my friends are telling me not to, because theres no demand and that they won't go up. Not to distrust my friends' advice, but I'm asking, should I buy a rare? If I hold it for a year will it be worth more in the future? -Skill
July 6, 200719 yr I'd buy a santa or a mask none of those easter egg/pumkin/half wine and disk junk buy one of the wearables and there is just a demand for new updates now but rares will go up. July 6, 200719 yr its up to you if you buy a rare. yea the prices will go up by next year but i honestly wouldnt sell a rare. if you can afford a rare in the first place, you can get that money back just as easy (or as hard, however you look at it) if you sell it and you want it again, chances are, the prices have raised again. Not all F2Pers are beggars or scammers, some are respected members, but these respected people are over-populated by these beggar and scammers.
July 6, 200719 yr Rares will go up, nomatter what. Buy yourself a nice mask and sell it in Octobre(Halloween). Or buy santa hat and sell in Christmas. You will earn probably around 3-5m.
July 6, 200719 yr Well I'm no rare expert, but I decided to take a break from RuneScape in December and figured, "Okay this time I'm going to be smart about this and stash a rare in my bank." So I bought a red mask and held onto it for 5 months.. but when I came back to RuneScape.. masks had gone down like 4m so I ended up losing gp :wall: In the long run, it'll probably go up, but rares have been pretty steady/iffy lately :? - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
July 6, 200719 yr As there are no new rares dropped, and there are new accounts made every day, rares will obviously go up.
July 6, 200719 yr Get yourself a santa. These are incredibly popular with the rich, and are very promising investments, for several reasons. hillarious as it is, dummies alch their santas all the time, and it's estimated that the price of a santa rises 300-500k every time one dissappears. The runescape population is growing exponentially. just recently runescape hit 1 million members, and there are probably 5 times as many non members. The more players there are, the more rich players there are, and the more rich players there are, the higher demand for rares. For some reason, the prices on masks seem to have slowly gone down in the past several months, but santas are almost constantly rising. Especially in december, when everyone wants one. The difference between masks and santas is that after halloween, the price on masks goes back to normal. but after christmas, the santas keep most of their boosted value, and then keep rising! given all this, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if santas hit 100m in 2 years. Definitely a good long-term investment. edit: one thing you'll have to watch out for is big updates, like the Construction skill. When Construction was released, and people realised how much money they were going to need to raise it, they started selling all their expensive stuff. Now there were more rare items on the market than there was a demand for, so people had to lower their prices in order to compete with other sellers. In a week after construction was released, the price of the dchain dropped nearly 4m!! it eventually went back up, but the economy is still scarred from that few weeks. However, discontinued items will always recover from such events, simply because they're not making any more. JamesBlond09: banned, 7-14-07

That's some good advice, and I hate to bump one of my old help/advice questions, but I'm going to get 33m, I want to have a little bit left over, however, I'm not sure what one to get. I'm not going to sell it short-term, I'm planning to have it quite a while.
August 18, 200718 yr buying santa hats in the summer and selling in the winter is a good way to make money.
