funky_nappy
Whilst trying to get surround sound to come from my speakers, my friend installed a load of codecs on my computer, then restarted the computer only to find that the sound had gone altogether. The volume control icon is missing from the system tray, and when going into Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Properties, this is shown (picture below), despite the fact that my speakers are still plugged into the computer. Does anybody know what's happened and how to fix it?
oops1644
try reinstalling your audio drivers: 1. right-click my computer -> properties 2. click the hardware tab 3. click the device manager button 4. look for anything with a yellow circle with an exclamation mark, a red X or a yellow question mark 5. to update or reinstall a driver double click the device and select the drivers tab, then select update or install yellow circle --> problem with device --> reinstall drivers or update drivers red X -> device disabled --> simply right-click it and select enable yellow question mark --> unknown device --> install the drivers from the device's disk (or if your using a dell , hp,etc use there recovery disk) im guessing your audio card is just disabled tho. Never argue with an idiot - it only drags you down to there level, where he then beats you with experience.completed Underground Pass at level 52! the_god_of_soup
Yeah, it's your audio drivers most likely. I forgot what the guy above me said, but the way I did it(it happened to me too, but without any codecs), was I got the name of my soundcard(I had an audigy soundblaster 5.1 I think), went to their website, selected my card, and downloaded the drivers. So just check your card make and model(fine writing on the card itself), and go to their site and try to download the drivers. The spelling and grammar of that email was that of an 11 year old palestinian goatboy who is speaking english for the first timeQuite simply, Facebook craps on Myspace. Then makes it eat the crap.
