Leaning HTML basics

Hey, I've been thinking of learning HTML (and PHP but that's later) and I'm wondering if any of you people know any website's that can teach you well about HTML. I would NOT like one of those junk websites that pretty much covers the basics and nothing left. I already know the basics I.E. image coding, text, backgrounds, etc. I am willing to spend as long as 4-6 months learning about this. Please reccomend as many websites as possible as 1 website will most likely not be enough.

Also, an even better thing to do would be to tell a book that can teach you HTML. Again not a junk one. If you would do this I request that you post the title, and author. Thank you.

heh, I remember when I was starting out. I agree that w3schools is good, but if you don't know what you are doing...

html is the simplest of the languages, you don't need to know much syntax, just the tags. w3schools has a tutorial and good information about the tags, as far as I know there isn't a book that can do more than the website, html's limitations make it fairly easy to learn. If you really can't make it with only w3schools I can try to dig something out for a recommendation, but it won't help much. The tutorial is at http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp, it is as good or better as any book I've seen. Hope it helps!

May I suggest you also learn CSS. You will be thankful for it afterwards.

If you can't find good tutorials online, get this book: Beginning CSS Web Development: From Novice to Professional by Simon Collison. It's excellent and even covers XHTML.

Good luck in your web development, and when you get to PHP & MySQL, I can help you if you get stuck.

Thanks everyone! This will truly help me to learn HTML. And as I said, HTML first, PHP second. I'll try and dig up a book to try to make my learning easier. (Even though w3schools makes it incredibly easy). Mod can lock now. I know what I need to know.

I changed the title just in case someone has the same question. It'll come up more easily on the search.

Just a side note for the future. You should add (please lock) to the end of the title, but please do not remove the title :)
