Cannon for Slayer Training: Questions/Advice

Recommended Posts

I have just began slayer training, and have bought a cannon to assist me. I intend to train using a cannon (where the task is appropriate for one) for around 3 hours per session, so I need to know a few things about getting the required supplies.

My question/s are thus:

1) How many cannonballs will I require per task of say 140 trolls, 140 lessers etc. In other words, whats the minimum number of cannonballs I should take with me to any given slayer task suitable for a cannon?

2) How many cannonballs will I go through per hour doing these tasks?

Advice time :)

1) I am making my own cballs using the iron ore I collected from fleshies, combined with the coal I get from MTK = cheap cballs! This will allow me to make on average 2k cballs per day but takes up a lot of time. Is this the best way for me to go? I don;'t mind the slowness as I am getting smithing exp (albeit very slow).

2) With 92 range, am I wasting my time with a cannon? I don't have a crystal bow, but use rune Xbow against drags, and mage short with addy arrows against all other critters.

Any and all advice appreciated :)

I can help with 1 thing, using a cannon is not about exp but about making the tasks faster. Cannon xp is 1pt per damage or about 1/4 of normal range xp. So the xp you gain from using a cannon should be considered bonus xp.

hi im a lvl 75 slayer and i often use a canon so i'll try and give u some advise best i can.

the answer to the first question is very hard to give a specific answer for as it depends on the monster i normally take 1k canon balls on a task and depending on the monster / amount will some times return with 500 cballs left or very few.

there stackable and so as long as ur fairly confidendt that u wont get killed easyily then having 1k balls on u makes sure u wont have to make extra trips just to get more c balls.

the second question again depends if u get task like kalphites or dagganoths which are in multi combat areas u can go through between 1k-2k cballs and hours.

your questions about how to obtain the cballs, you can continue to make them yourself if the smith xp is more important than the slayer speed.

but if u start buying cball untill u get to higher lvls of slayer 75-80+ you will almost allways b at a loss in terms of money.

the canon is mainly used to speed through task as opposed to lvling range and so wont really affect your range lvl that much it will enable u to level ur slayer skill at a much faster rate than without it.

i hope i've been some help to u and havnt rambled on to much

Thanks Sandman, thats helped me a lot. I'll try to ensure that I have 3k or so cballs in stock prior to each run of tasks - should be 3 hours or so I hope.

I currently have a 140ish task of trolls, and am sitting at the bottom of Death Plateau with 800 cballs on me (and mage short :) ). This will give me a good gauge on cballs required per task/hour aswell.

I will keep making my cballs as long as I can stand the speed lol - It takes a day of smelting/smithing to do 2 days of slaying, but for now the smithing exp is worth it. In time my tree seeds may pay for a few loads of cballs but I hopefully won't need to do that prior to getting a black mask or two ;)

Wish me luck!
