Ice gloves are the only thing that will work.

you can use any kind of gloves for it. i think the split gauntlets would work. kill an icefiend on ice mountain to cool the cake afterwards if youre not using ice gloves

Yes That is right. Quote from the quest guide:

 

You have three cooling choices. 1. If you have ice gloves, get them from the bank. If you don't, go get them from the ice queen through the same way you did in Heroes' Quest. Drop the cake and pick it up while wearing your ice gloves. The cake will cool down. 2. You can also pick the hot rock cake with gauntlets, go to ice mountain and kill an Icefiend to cool the cake, or drop it on top of ice mountain and pick it up to cool it. 3. If you are not in a rush, you can also just wait for the cake to cool. It will take some time, though.
