I do not have a dragonfire shield, but you need to choose between the uber defense bonus of the dfs or the nice attack bonusses of the defender. I recommend using a rune defender for all Turael tasks, monsters that use magic attack(the 19 slash bonus of the defender outweighs the 10 magic defense of the dfs), or monsters that don't hit on you. The dfs should be used on high level slayer monsters such as Terrordogs, nechrachels(sp), gargoyles, goraks, all dragons, skeletal wyverns.
