ok my character is lvl 4 i was wondering if i level up in range or mage will my combat levels go up or would they only go up if i trained meele?

Yes, if you only train magic or ranged, that would still get your combat level up. Try meddling with the combat calculator.

 

Your combat level is calculated on three things: Defence and HP, Prayer, and your dominant combat skill (either magic, ranged or strength+attack).

Your combat level depends on your dominant fighting stat.

 

 

 

IIRC, RS compares (Attack + Strength)*2 against Range*3 and Magic*3

 

The largest of the 3 is used in the formula (weighted by about 13/80)

 

 

 

The rest of the formula uses Defense/4, HitPoints/4, and Prayer/8
