We are doing some for the new Cheetos commercial, and it's not an easy task. 3D programs aren't that great at doing fire (especially XSI)... Although there is a new plugin for 3DSM called AfterBurn that seems to be pretty good. I'd say though that photorealistic fire is best left on the compositing end...
