  1. I probably have the best sig on this forum.... :-k
  2. The one thing that jumped out at me was the border. It seems a bit bold, where the signature has alot of thin aliased lines. I'd probably take it down by 50% or so.
  3. I use a tablet for 2D painting, 3D sculpting, 3D animation, compositing, and everything in between. Anyone who has tried a tablet and "didn't like it" doesn't have enough patience. They take getting used to, but they are by far superior to a point and click mouse. If you are looking for something basic yet somewhat professional, get an Intuos. They can be had for around $200 MSRP, but if you look for a deal you can get them a bit cheaper. The last tablet I bought was a smaller Intuos for my laptop and I paid $100 (it was 50% off), and so far it's my favorite tablet, and I've used about 6 different varieties.
  4. Lol, you can model just as good in Maya as you can in 3DSM.

    Displaco

He's super exaggerated and super lean and buff, that's how these characters are built.. it isn't supposed to make too much anatomical sense.. ;) Also, he was never black, that was just the shader because it wasn't rendered or lit, just a screen grab from my software package. On a side note, the top part of his costume is made of Carbon Fiber, that's why it looks like that.
  6. Man, let me know where you can find one that cheap! If you want the cheapest of the cheap that can take professional quality pictures, get a Nikon D70. Run you about $700 or so...

    Displaco

Here's what he's looking like... I'll probably rig him sometime over Christmas, until then he's pretty much done.... maybe a few minor tweaks here and there.
  8. your head is too small, for one second, where your arm meets your shoulder is looking funky, its hard to tell exactly how that works. also watch the length of your upper arm versus the length of the forearm, your forearm is either too long or the other one too small. its not entirely easy to tell though, the pic is rather low quality and he IS covered in a trenchcoat so there isnt much anatomy to look at.
  9. I don't know about anyone else, but when a thread contains an external link, especially to something as slow as deviant art, I don't click it. That might help you with further evaluation of that "theory".

    Displaco

I understood the second part, he's saying it's a very clean mesh (thanks) and he's asking if I'm going to rig it - which the answer to that is; yes, I will eventually. Probably not until early next year though, I have a few other characters I need to do. If the first part of what he asked was "what's it made of" then the answer there is that it started as a low polymesh and was converted to subdivision surfaces. It was done in Softimage XSI (http://www.softimage.com)

Here is a frontal shot. Still not sure what colors I like.

    Displaco

Worked on it a bit more today. Still not entirely happy with the feet or the mask... alot of tweaking left to do. Also going to model the eye under the mask so he would be able to take it off if he wanted.

    Displaco

Actually this was done in XSI, but it would be just as easy in C4D. Simple polygonal modeling, nothing complex about this....

    Displaco

Here is part of the basic design... I directed the design and commissioned a designer to draw it out. Still undergoing some tweaking.

    Displaco

Here is a character design I'm working on, I've got about 7 hours invested in this right now. His name is Displaco, he is a superhero who can displace particles around him and literally pass through objects, rearrange matter, etc... His mask isn't finished, there is alot of detailing to be done there where his powers will be more obvious through the things on his mask. Also his hands were done, but they looked too realistic and I want a more cartoony feel, so I'm going to be redoing those when I get a chance. Let me know of any comments/crits/concerns you might have. Thanks.
  16. Don't get one that big, you'll regret it. Personally I think 6x8 is the perfect size for digital artists.... you only need bigger ones when you are spanning multiple monitors and doing much more sophistocated things. I've used some that are in excess of 2ft wide, and 6x8 is the best. And go with WACOM, they are the industry standard for a reason. If you really want something nice, get a cintique, I played with the 21.3" cintique this year at SIGGRAPH and it was pretty badass.
  17. I think it could do with some dodging on the cat's face... when you develop it in the enlarger, wave your hand over the cats face so less light hits the paper.
  18. If you understand the principle of the tutorial it's easy to figure out how to extract just about anything from a picture.
  19. Depends on the project Venomai... generally I use SoftimageXSI for all 3D effects... compositing is done in either After Effects or on a Flame system. We do use a little bit of Cinema 4D for some of the lower budget stuff... also we do have ZBrush and Modo but we don't really use them... unfortunately.
