  1. Can we blame them, though? These people, these "scum." They are the bottom of the food chain. They sit on the lowest end of our social spectrum. A majority of them are direct descendents of poor, black, african slaves. They are subsidized by our government and forgotten about. They have known nothing but generations and generations of poverty, and crime. New Orleans has one of the highest crime rates, both the public and those in the government. The crime rates increase, so the police force must compensate. They give badges to the people who were committing the crimes they are arresting people for just weeks earlier. This is all they know. Their entire lives are based in this area, and a majority of them have never seen anything else. It's a bit sad that no matter what they do, how hard they work, or how hard they try, they will never escape the poverty that they live in. Until now. Katrina is over, for the most part, and there is little anyone can do to stop the storm, because obviously it has already passed. But maybe now we can give these people a new future. Maybe for someone, Katrina was the best thing that ever happened to them. You can blame the government all day, but at least be fair. I don't like George Bush, never have, and I think he is a fool. However, that does not change the fact that EVERYONE, state-local-AND-federal agencies are all to blame. We must move on and out of this blame, and try and do what we can NOW, to save lives. I think the worst thing anyone can do right now, is nothing. Look into donating for UMCOR. Over 95% of the money you donate is directly given back to the people, where as the RedCross/SalvationArmy return rate is something like 60%. (I'm not saying they are crooks, but just letting you know how to get the best bang for your buck) Alot of us may not have extra money to just donate, so maybe you can give your time. I'm volunteering at the Red Cross, and there are refugees coming in by the THOUSANDS. I live in San Antonio TX, about 2.5hours West of Houston, and all over Texas we are already seeing tons of refugees.
  2. What Intuous are you getting? Generally they are better than the Graphires... At least in my experience.
  3. The GraphireIII seems to be a common solution for new designers... you might try it out. I was pleased, to an extent. :)
  4. I think you need to work on the values in the signature... Like the guy on the far left... I can't even tell his foot is on the cut off head really... it looks flat. A shadow under that would help. The second guy from the right... his legs are very flat. Yes, they have alot of detail but they look like 2d patterns, not 3d legs. I think if you fix a few things you have alot going for you as far as this is concerned. Maybe tweak the composition a bit too, it's pretty wacky right now. Nice work.
  5. I love it... but I think it could use more contrast in the room itself.... but I really like all your work, keep it up. :)
  6. How are you lighting them? Right now it looks like 2 big square polygons are emitters? But I'd like to know exactly what else you are using etc... maybe somebody could give you some insight.. because I think that the whitesquares are pretty tacky... No offense. You definitely have skill but try doing other things maybe?
  7. I think the lighting on the glass needs some work... There is a little too much black in there for my taste.... How did you render it? How did you light it? Are you using FG/GI..? I also don't like how you can see your two softbox white cards in that coffee render... I would work on maybe rendering different passes then doing some postwork to composite that stuff out of there. It's pretty nice work though. :)
  8. Ironically enough, I've always said it, "titia" I always used that middle T as an I and it makes a word.... so... "tid EE uh" for me... lol I don't think it's a word though is it?
  9. If you wanted to make this believable, get a higher quality cloud picture, and make the lightning strike somewhere on the mountain where we can see. When we do visual effects, we are constantly having to put fake things, into real environments, sort of like what you have attempted here. One of the key ways to accomplish this, is to have the two elements interact, otherwise they just look stamped onto each other. Somehow they need to complement each other, be it shadows, lights, or another element. But somehow...
  10. Keiphus, hopefully he'll come to his senses tomorrow. He was at the pub and came back tiddly, as you should know alcohol is a depressant and Matt is a sensitive bloke. He's just over-reacted at the comments about his picture. I figured something was up, usually he seems a bit more controlled... haha... Which is one reason I don't drink. :-P
  11. Wow... viewing sigs on this new monitor is a joke.... 1920x1200
  12. 95% of your linespeed? That's insane... Thanks for the info blazer.. I'm running a DSL line though so I guess I must be about 3,000 miles from the main servers because holy **** my connection is slow. I hope nobody gets mad at me for using theirs. haha.
  13. The picture was at like 50% opacity, you had huge lightrays coming from your eyes, and they had a huge purple glow on it. I'm sorry I misundestood you as a boy. It looks like I can't win.
  14. I think I was misinterpreted... I never even really looked at the image that much - I wasn't trying to make fun of your skill... I saw the image of the boy very quickly, and it just looked like a very staged and (for lack of a better word) funny photograph. Because of your other post on the other forum I linked to, I thought maybe this too was somewhat of a joke. If you really want me to critique it, let me know. My original post had nothing to do with "the degree of suckage" or lack-thereof.
  15. Our line is 1MB, but none of us get anywhere near that... In fact I don't know anyone who even gets within 50% of their line speed.... maybe an elite few...
  16. Not everyone can be as good as you with photoshop and stuff so how about you stop with the wise guy talk and post something contructive rather than flaming everything anyone does. Haha... Sorry, it's hard to tell when you make posts like this in other forums.. I intended no offense. :)
  17. Sorry I didnt' respond last night, I accidently forgot to sign off the other computers.... I like the arm highlight, looks great. Definitely helps define the anatomy better. I hope this is highres/vector?
  18. I don't think so Tttia, but I have found a solution.... There is an open wireless signal that I can access from anywhere in my house, plus my dad setup an amplifier (or whatever it's called) to strengthen all the wireless signals... He intended to set it up so he could use his wireless outside... but I was snooping around and I found another signal, and it's insanely fast, and allows me to connect to tipit from home. I think last night I was downloading 40-50MB files at around 700kb/ps. Normally on my DSL connection split over 4 laptops/3 desktops I can only get like 50kb/ps max... so as you can imagine, I'm in heaven right now.
  19. I'm first trying to figure out if you're being serious or not... lol
  20. I like it alot. I think the background could use a bit more darkness too. I like all the little details that you added, it really adds to the effect of everything. One of my favorites so far. Obviously if you wanted to I'm sure you could further refine the girl and her proportions, as they could be a bit off with the hips/thighs etc... On a side note, I just got a new computer, and it's a [bleep]ing machine. Also, I'm working alot less now, and I'm starting college. So hopefully, we will see some more work out of me. I'm majoring in Computer Graphics, specifically 3D Animation.
  21. How come some of the artists posted complete [cabbage]? Perhaps I missed the point of the contest...
  22. I think it needs more depth... right now it looks like a cross dissolve between that texture and your arm... Make me believe that that stuff is really inside his arm.
  23. It looks fine, actually. Just keep painting on top adding more and more detailed layers... alot of people expect that you can just put 1 or 2 layers of color down and expect to either be good or not. Which is not the case...
