High end headphones question

I was thinking about getting $100+ dollar Bose type headphones because they sound so great at stores where you can sample songs with them. What I was wondering was for people who already own expensive headphones. Does it make the same difference as those samples at stores with whatever computer you have? Or does it depend on your soundcard? I've got a pretty decent soundcard right now and normally use the headphones that come with my laptop but I'll buy Bose ones if the sound always sounds as good as they do in stores.

generally yes they will sound better. I bought a pair of bose earbuds to replace the earphones on my ipod. The new ones sound much better then the standard Ipod ones on both my laptop and ipod. Sound quality is generally limited by the headphones, and not the sound card. The biggest difference is the base. Pretty much all sound cards output base, but a good set aof headphones will produce the sound much better.

If you play the songs from a cd, it'll (obviously) sound just as good. If you play em through your mp3 player or just mp3's on your comp, the sound quality will be minutely worse, but you'll most likely never notice. I suggest you buy a set of Sennheisers, Hd 595 or hd 280 great sound and excellent durability. I myself prefer listening through speakers, but those headphones are the 2nd best thing

Sounds Cards will make a difference. We don't sell sound cards at my store so I can't really answer any questions about them. All Bose is good at is advertising, there products are low quality and over priced. I would look at http://www.gradolabs.com if you are looking for true quality of product and sound. They will run you two-hundred to close to nine hundred dollars. Hope that helps.

I'm not interested in buying a sound card, I think the one I have is good enough. I'm just asking if using Bose headphones would make a night and day difference compared to the ipod-like free ones that came with my computer.

Mac/I-Pod headphones are great, but most headphones that come with PCs are not that good. You won't see a difference if you move to Bose because they are low quality too. For overall PC use I would have to suggest Altec Lansing's AHS615. These are a great sounding pair of headphones with a built in microphone for Voice Over IP. They price point is good to.

Hell yes

Bose is great, but if you can, try looking into Sennheiser headphones too. They're not as pricey as Bose but works just as well if not better
