There's no sense in us giving you C&C if you yourself thinks it sucks. You can be open minded to that infact you are a beginner, but your attitude towards your art takes up most of what the outcome will be like, and skill is the rest.

Again, I do not want to write a beginners guide, but maybe in the future me or Nad will. So, here's my meagre advice on it;

Download world machine.

If you don't do that, learn to use the 'generate terrain' tool, don't just sculpt it and call it done.

Don't change the cloud color untill you're more knowledgeable about using the atmosphere to acheive the affect you want. Oh, and you cannot sculpt your own clouds, but you can generate new ones (which you should be able to figure out without me or Nad giving you step by step instructions).

Keep playing with the surface maps.

And render something bigger than a sig -.-

BTW; Keep in mind, things are supposed to look real. Don't take what you first get and post it when you should be able to tell it doens't look real... spend a few hours if needed getting it as absolutely best you can, THEN ask for help.

its fun to make fantasy worlds is it not? and showing others a somewhat kind of piece that shows your simplicity towards this fantacy is good. it just calms me seeing blue and purple in the same place for some reason =D

However, most fantasy worlds even then look realistic in a sense, then pull a sweet atmo or something off.

For example, look at my work. I hate to do photo-realistic stuff, because quite frankly, its booring as hell. So i'll add a touch of a fun atmosphere, but i still work to get a good looking and realistic surface map. There isn't any excuse of not having a surface map  among other things.

*sighs*

LOOK AT THE MANUAL!

It isn't hard at all to use. just read the manual......

Couple of hours for a 500x500? :?

It takes me a couple of hours for a 3200x2400 on Ultra + extra smooth blending with Atmosphere 1 away from max lol..... well not all the times, sometimes with water it will take around 5-6hours

and was the double post nesicary?

EDIT: now that i see it.... well i won't give much C&C, let Cal take over again, but i hate how you can't see any of the surface map, and the mountains are strikingly unrealistic.

The terrain still frankly sucks. All you've done is use the sculpt tools, I see no use from the 'generate terrain' settings.

The atmosphere is somewhat boring but at least you've tried for something other than default. Maybe put the sun somewhat behind the terain and try to get some light rays going, or behind the clouds.

The atmospheres (namely the sky)'s color is a bit extreme, tone it down a bit. Even if you're going for fantasy, it should still look nice, and that looks like it could have been made in Photoshop.

Can't comment on the surface map as there isn't one to be seen. Shadows can be good and add contrast or give a feeling of mystery, but unless you have a damn good reason to have everything in a blinding shadow, it's no good.

The water... well, at least it isn't as choppy as before. It could still even be toned down some. There are more detailed and special things you can dow ith water, but there's no need for me to get in to them now.

alright so how do i get the sun rays? thats what i really want to know

Sun rays are acheived by having the sun right behind a close back of clouds with a small opening. The sun is turned preaty high up ( on brightness and stuff) and you can see rays escaping through the clouds

if i were you i'd learn terragen 1st though before trying advanced stuff (well somewhat advanced )

Rays aren't that advanced :P, but, none the less, Nad only mentioned one technique of acheiving rays. They can also be achevied with the sun is far above a [bleep]ey mountain and the rays come down between the mountains peaks, or when it is almost entirely behind a [bleep]ey mountain they will shine through in between the [bleep]es.

Having a higher density simple haze also helps.

Simple haze is basically how much 'foggy' or 'dusty' the atmosphere is. But this is starting to get to be a bit advanced, as you have to learn to control the height of it too.
