chris11
Hey, im sorry if im not using the correct terms, but what the hey. Ive been having problems - i somehow (no clue how) downloaded this program which creates pop ups telling me i have major viruses on my computer. If you click the pop up, it directs you to buy and download some scanner/deleter(whatever its called), like spybot or adaware. the thing is, its very difficult to get rid of - ive run countless scans with spybot and adaware and mcafee, in normal mode and safe mode, but nothing seems to have helped - it just keeps coming back. It changes your home page to their site; it puts their sites on your favourites, and it puts desktop icons directing you to the site. If anybody could help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :) PS. sorry if you dont understand - im not exactly an expert at computers. PSS. Just ask if you want pictures of it/more detail or whatever. Got 99 range? Hobgoblin11
When you run Spybot, do you actually remove the things it finds? Kinda obvious but I had to ask :-P What is the name of the product it tries to sell you? Has anything appeared on your programs list that you haven't installed yourself? 99/99 Fletching, 99/99 Cooking, 96/99 Strength

r2d2
run a search (start->search) for ultimate cleaner, or maybe one word at a time. tell it to look in my computer, to search through all files and folders, and in the advanced options tab check the box for "look in system folders", and maybe hidden files too, though usually these programs don't have that kind of access. You also may want a firewall, some of them block changes to your settings, ie home page. post a screenshot of the results, if there are any. Hobgoblin11
Is that all you got? Did you search your whole computer? Most of those are temporary internet files or internet logs. After searching for it on google, it sounds like quite a few people have he same problem. Have you tried running Windows Defender? Apparently that is supposed to get rid of it. Other than that, the solutions offered by tech guys are long and complex - it doesn't seem like an easy thing to get rid of. You might be better off trying a forum such as http://forums.techguy.org. 99/99 Fletching, 99/99 Cooking, 96/99 Strength

Hobgoblin11
Windows Defender should be something you already have on your PC. Try "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui[Caution: Executable File]" It may be located somewhere else on your PC though, try running a search for it. If not, you can download it from: https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en 99/99 Fletching, 99/99 Cooking, 96/99 Strength

blade995
Make sure you have updated definitions before scanning. Spybot has a new version called 1.5. Make sure you are running that. Also use Ad-aware 2007, it's also free and will find stuff spybot has missed.

adam_ross0
Sounds a lot like Ultimate Defender..I had that one a while back. Scan with a Spyware scanner and an Antivirus. If this keeps occuring..there's a patch online somewhere, just google it. You might also want to run a program to fix any registry errors.. EDIT: You've already got it done, then. Congrats!
