-Devoted12-
Hello, One of my laptops has had a problem which I have been unable to resolve. It is a Vaio laptop. When I start the computer, it will come up with this error message: We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous starup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or REset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally. Safe Mode Safe Mode With Networking Safe Mode With Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent setting that worked) Start Windows Normally This has occured a couple of times lately, within the last week or so. I usually can just hit enter on Last Known Good Configuration and it is fine. However, recently, that didn't work. So, I restored the computer completely. This worked fine for a day, and I had all the new programs and updates installed onto it that Windows had available. Yet, when I turned the computer off and restarted it, this error occured once again. Yet, this time, I can use my up and down keys to highlight the option I want, but when I hit enter, the computer will freeze on that screen. I have tried hitting F8 before it comes to this screen. This allows me to click on any of the options, but once doing so, it will go straight to a greyish, black screen where it will stay, almost as though it is frozen. Nothing I do seems to work, so I thought maybe you all would have an answer. Thanks!
Brandon_7
That's weird, the last time I got that message, the BSOD followed. If you have a Windows XP CD, maybe you should try putting it in and using the "repair" option?

I have all the materials it came with yet the CD seems to be missing. #-o Can I use a CD from another windows "computer" to do the job. This computer is a Windows XP also and I may be able to find the setup CD for this one.
Errdoth
Are you still able to get to onto windows via normal boot/LKGC? Last.fm Signature Overlays
-Devoted12-
Are you still able to get to onto windows via normal boot/LKGC? No, like I said, any option I choose, the screen will "freeze." I will hit enter on any of the options and my computer will stay on that screen. I am no longer able to move the highlighted option and Windows won't load.

-Devoted12-
But what about normal boot without using F8? Normal boot comes up with the same error screen as if you press F8 optionwise. If I boot up normally, that message will appear and any options I choose, will freeze the screen. If I press F8 and choose any of the options, it will go to a greyish, black screen and stay there as if frozen. This applies to anything I choose. Nadril
Have you added any hardware recently? One of my laptops has had a problem which I have been unable to resolve. It is a Vaio laptop. I kind of doubt that :P. A windows xp repair would be my first guess, try and find the CD.
-Devoted12-
I haven't recently installed any hardware. As for the CD, if it is a Windows Xp Repair CD, but not made only for the Vaio Laptop, will it still repair the problem?
Nadril
I haven't recently installed any hardware. As for the CD, if it is a Windows Xp Repair CD, but not made only for the Vaio Laptop, will it still repair the problem? Any windows XP repair CD should do the trick, at least I'm almost positive. Have you gotten any BSOD's as well before, or is it just that? The reason I'm asking is my roomate had the same problem, we thought his hard drive crapped out on us but the problem just sort of went away after I tried some tests (testing the memory to see if its good, ect.) It was an odd situation though and if at all possible just using the repair CD would be miles easier than hoping for it to spring back to life. -Devoted12-
Thanks for your help. I have had a couple of these errors in recent times. The other times it was easy to just restart it and it seemed to work fine. I will try and find a CD tommorow for XP and use it then give the results on that. :)
-Devoted12-
Okay, here is an update for you all. I got windows running now after having to reset it all. I have a feeling this error will come back in the future, so if it does, I will need your help. Thanks for now! :)
-Devoted12-
Yup, I knew I'd be back. :( Now this happens... When I start the computer, it will begin to load then it will go to a blue screen that says... STOP: C0000145 {Application Error} The application failed to innitialize properly (0X0000006). Click OK to terminate the application. There isn't an okay and any button I hit doesn't seem to work. How can I fix this? Thanks!
Brandon_7
Well I Googled that error message and quite a few of the results I got said that it was a hardware problem. The main problem was RAM, another person seemed to have a hard drive problem. It's weird because you said you haven't added any hardware lately so I really don't know what the problem is. It's rather difficult to pinpoint since the error message isn't very specific. You wouldn't happen to still have a warranty/insurance on the laptop, would you? If so, you could of course get it repaired that way. If not, unless someone else can help you, you may want to consider taking it to a computer repair store and seeing if they can help you at all.
