Torlen
Heres the problem, I ran the Crucial scan to tell me how and what type of ram my computer needed. It told me that my computer, a Dell Dimension B110, needed ddr pc3200 and I could support 2x1g. I bought the 2x1g, and when I install them, my computer just beeps at me when I try to turn it on. Whats going on? The ram I got was pc3200 ddr dimm.
happybappy
Make sure they are pushed all the way in. If they are try running the computer with just one in and then the other.
blade995
What is the exact beep? Continuous short beeps would be a ram problem (just trying to confirm that it is indeed a ram problem). Are you tried re-installing them? Make sure they are in correctly and pushed down all the way with the tabs on the sides all the way up.
Torlen
It sounds like 1 long, 3 short, then 1 long again, and 3 short. Ive installed RAM before, and if I put my old stick back in everything works just fine. The problem is that my computer takes pc3200 ddr and non-ecc, which is exactly what these 2 1g sticks are. Is it possible that both sticks are bad?
ClareJonsson
Did you say 2 Gig sticks? does that mean you have put 2 X 2Gig sticks in and have just upgraded to 4Gig? [Assist-X]
Torlen
No, 2 x 1g sticks.
Cruiser
Test each stick separately, on it's own, without any other RAM in the machine. You've got the right idea, just seems you haven't narrowed it down far enough. If both sticks boot fine with just the single stick installed, you may need to look into how the slots are paired for dual channel ect. I know my board won't boot if I have my matched 512 sticks in slots 1 & 3 instead of 1 & 2. Being a Dell it might be hard to figure out but it's worth checking.\ If both sticks boot and you figure out which slots to use to get them both installed I'd also run Memtest86 (free download page, burn the ISO to a cd) for a while to see if they create any memory errors that could cause problems later down the road.
