My fire wall was turned off for about half a day and my computer got swarmed with spyway, its been running slower and i can hear noises from inside it. is there any free anti spyware software anyone would recommend to delete and prevent it?

Free anti-spyware software?

Spybot: Search and Destroy

Ad-Aware

Avast

Hijack This

Those are the 4 I've heard the best about. I have a...well, an ancient computer in my room...I scanned with Spybot, and it's actually running quite a bit faster now.

Well your cpu may be normal, it may be not. You did not tell us what you were doing when your usage was like this. If your computer was idle when it was using 50% then thats not normal, but if you had programs open or were playing a game it could be very normal.

For the virus/spyware programs above, they are all good but please note that hijackthis is not an automatic spyware remover and you have to check what you want to remove manually. It shows both good and bad processes so don' remove everything.
