April 10, 200521 yr I read this book a while back but I can't remember the title or who it's by. Anyone know? Here's what I remember: -science fiction -pre - 1990's -black monuments are found, each measures a ratio of exactly 1x5x9 -one is found on Earth, one on the Moon, one on a moon of Jupiter -eventually Jupiter is consumed by these monuments -the monuments have some sort of field protecting them, nothing can damage them -this field is described as slippery feeling -the monument on the Moon broadcasted radio signals when it was unburied -people go through the top of the monument on Jupiter's moon and come out somewhere else, colors are inverted here -these people's ship is destroyed by going into a sun -one man survives because he was protected by some being -the survivor is changed into a different form and he visits Earth and sees a female who is important to him, she doesn't see him Is this enough for someone to tell me what book it is? Also, who is the author?
April 10, 200521 yr That would be it. Arthur C Clark - 2001, A Space Oddysey. Also 2010: The Year We Make Contact, 2061, and 3001: The Final Odyssey. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. I was like "i'm going to need a few more paper towels than that luv"

Also, who is the author? well the boxes are 1x4x9 (visibly for humans, continues up through higher dimensions) not 1x5x9. one isnt on a moon of jupiter, it is inbetween jupiter and the moon just chilling out in space only one person goes through the monument, and the colors arent just inverted, all kinds of crazy crap happens here. then he goes into a replication of a hotel. nobodies ship went into a sun that i can remember. the man was being protect by a higher being the whole time (after he entered the black box) classic book, i love it. the rest of the series is awesome also. and i cant beleive you didnt remember HAL, the artificial intelligence.
