November 21, 200718 yr Basically i've had my computer a few months and I decided against getting a floppy drive cause let's face it, they're obsolete arn't they? So there isn't actually one in my computer and it's replaced by a card reader (DEFG drives show up seperately on My Computer.) However, my floppy drive (A) still shows up, and if I click it by accident, the program I clicked on it with (winamp, sending files over msn etc) will generally crash or struggle immensely. Is there any way I can stop this happening?
November 21, 200718 yr In the device manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager), find the 'Floppy Disk Drives' dropdown. Open it, right click on the drive and disable it. It should disappear from the list of available drives (Assuming you're using XP). I usually do the same thing and actually hadn't since reinstalling a few weeks ago. Thanks for the reminder.
November 22, 200718 yr You might also go into your BIOS settings and disable the floppy there. That way, Windows should never even see it in the first place.
