Well I recently decided that I wanna get 94 mage through alching Green Vambs.

 

 

 

It will take me 75k alchs to do it. Well since its near impossible to buy green vambs, at least not at a reasonable price, I will be crafting my own.

 

 

 

I was curious how long would it take to tan and craft 75k green vambs??

 

 

 

Would the amount of time be so great that I should just do yew longs or something else easier to buy?

 

 

 

I do look forward to it getting me to 89 crafting :thumbsup:

I've got 99 crafting, but I did it mostly with green bodies rather than vambs.

 

 

 

I started out with both tanning and crafting. I generally managed about 1k hides per hour this way (so 75k hides for you).

 

 

 

If you're not bothered about turning a profit, I'd suggest buying ready tanned hides to speed this process up.

 

 

 

If you alch 75k hides, it'll likely take about 75 hours.... so 150 hours combined.

Is there a cheaper way to get tanned hides? I am not really worried with making a profit, but with the loss I'd be making at buying tanned hides 1.8k ea would be more than yew longs. In which case I would just do the longs.

I found it to be around 1k per hour also with tanning and crafting if I recall. I highly recommend you craft on the walk back to the bank if you're going to be tanning yourself. It's a time savings (or was to me).

 

 

 

I wouldn't get your hopes up of buying leathers for 1.6k ea. I usually saw them at 1.7k at the lowest when I was buying hides.

 

 

 

An alternative to tanning yourself or buying leathers is to hire people to tan for you. Alternatively you can abuse your friends as slave labor and see if they'll do some for you... but good luck with that. Most of my friends wouldn't. *cough*

Maybe a method tip or two.

Needle, a stack of thread, a pile of gp and the rest hides. I wore nothing but a glory, boots of lightness, and a spottier cape to help with energy. You click on the minimap in the tannery and run there. I used the ctrl method where you hold ctrl when you click on the map so I wouldn't have to constantly toggle menus to run. After you exchange the hides you click the minimap to walk back to the bank and craft the hides on the way. By the time you get to the bank you should have an inventory of bodies done (or a decent amount of vambs) and it allows your energy to restore.
