Im a 'lil confused. Currently i use wireless internet and am wondering if the ip address changes each time i log on?

 

 

 

Any information anyone knows on IP's, even if it doesn't answer my question would be helpful, how they work etc, especially concerning a wireless setup.

Depends what you mean by wireless internet, and even if you mean exactly that we can't possibly know, only your provider will know.

 

 

 

It also depends whether you're getting your internal and external IP addresses confused.

 

 

 

If you mean actual wireless internet (ie. your computer connects directly to a cellphone network) then it depends completely on your provider as to whether you're provided with a dynamic, semi-static, or static IP address. Dynamic IP addresses change every time you disconnect and reconnect from the internet. Semi-static IP addresses change on set intervals, for example, every 6 months. Static IP addresses are self-explanatory, as in they never change, but these usually cost a little extra from your ISP and you have to ask for them specifically. The fact that you're using a wireless net connection should have no affect on whether your IP is any of the above 3, that's based solely on the ISP.

 

 

 

If you mean that your PC connects wirelessly to a router, and the router connects to the internet through your house. Then the only thing that may change when you hook into the wireless network is your internal IP address. As long as the router is connected, the external IP of your network shouldn't actually change.

phoning your ISP and asking is the simplest route to be honest - when configuring most routers/similar you are asked what kind of ip you have (at least I always seem to be) and they recommend to call your ISP.

I think pure mage has answered it, as the ip on my laptop changes slightly whenever i connect/disconnect from the internet, its a dynamic address, and it also says in part of the address it is dynamic, i never had a clue what it meant.
