help on upgrading the RAm on my samsung r40

Featured Replies

I have samsung r40 which has 2 512mb ram sticks installed. I went on amazon.co.uk and found some cheap kingston ddr2 ram on sale for about ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã12-15. I was wondering could i just buy 2 1gb sticks and replace what i have currently installed. Also do i need to buy sodimm ram.

I need the extra ram becuase I now use vista.

ps. I could find out by unsrewing the back and having a look but i prefer not to if i dont absolutely have to.

Also if i want to upgrade the HDD does it have to be samusng or will any laptop sized drive do?

thanks for helping.

well, assuming your RAM is ddr2, then yes the sticks can go in the same slots that the old RAM went. However if the Ram is DDR or some other type of RAM it will not work. To find the type of RAM your computer has, turn off your computer and turn it back on again. Before it boots into windows, there should be a simple page that has a logo on it - probably a samsung one in your case. Someone on that screen it should say something like "press F2 to enter setup." Hit F2, and the page you will be in should detail the type of RAM your computer uses.

I'm positive there's a simpler way to tell what kind of RAM your computer has in it, but I'm too tired to think of it.

I just did a quick google search of your laptop model and it says it uses DDR ram, not DDR2.

Download the program CPUZ and it will tell you the exact ram you have.
