I've never recorded the amount of iron bars I can smith into iron knives in one hour but the best town to smelt iron ore into bars is Neitiznot since it has a 1-click bank and its furnace is next to the bank. The West Varrock bank would be the obvious one to smith at since the anvils are directly south from it.

The best way to find out is to determine how many iron bars you can smith in 10 minutes, then multiply this value by 6 to estimate the amount of iron bars you can manage in one hour.

I was at the dwaft place for my 70 smithing achievement. I`m not too sure on the facts, but I think I used the players smelter (they made it work I just put the ores on :D ) then smithed the bars into iron knives or plates. If plates, I would go on to alch them. If knifes, I gathered up a stash (about 20k) then sold them.
