My Opinion, My Rant, and My Suggestions - Recent Updates

If you couldn't tell from the title, this is another thread about yesterday's updates. But I'm also going a little back. (And a little forward)

So...

My Opinions

Straight to the point, this is what I think.

Duel Arena Staking Limit - Hate it.

Grand Exchange - Good basic idea, downhill from there.

Party Room Changes - Good idea.

F2P Duel Arena - Eh, some F2P-only limits could be added. Otherwise, I guess it's decent.

F2P Bank Space - Awesome. I've supported that suggestion every since Prankster posted it. (First page supporter FTW)

Wilderness Changes - The worst part.

Bounty Hunter - Good idea, if only it didn't screw with the wilderness and PKing.

Clan Wars - Good idea, could use a few tweaks.

Trade/Drop Changes - Stupid.

Duel Arena Staking Limit:

When it first came out, I was thinking, "Why can't the RWTs just TRADE?" Of course, with yesterday's release and explanations, that was explained. As the message says when you enter the area, dueling is an honorable pastime. It was a living for many people, making as much, if not more than skills. To those that say dueling isn't a skill, and therefore it shouldn't be done to make money, I say this: Attack, defense, strength, ranging, magic and prayer are skills, and they should be used to make money. The duel arena was how that was accomplished by many people, but with this update, that was no longer.

Grand Exchange:

As I said, I liked the basic idea. Being able to put up offers that could be accepted while you trained, or even logged off was an excellent idea. Also, having a price that was determined by players was also a nice update. But ever since, I've found it mainly a disappointment. Why? Prices have either dropped, or rose, like crazy. Take full rune for example. I didn't check what the price was when the GE was released, but I'm guessing it was 180K or so. Now, it is 140K-150K. Or, take granite shields. I put mine up for 100K a few weeks ago. Now, it's about 50K-60K. Don't even get me started on iron ores. On the other hand, there's logs. They've risen in price.

Anyways, why is this so bad? Dropping prices IS supposed to happen right? Yes, a little fluctuation is fine. But these prices are dropping because people or offering for low, and people are selling for low to sell faster. Thus, the price is now centered around the lowest price. Repeat this, and you've got massively dropping prices. I've done a good deal of mining, and I used to make a decent amount of money off of it. I can't any longer. I know I'm not along, and this isn't limited to miners. Many people are making less money than before.

Although I read the Tip.It Times article from last week (The one about money) and agreed with it, for the most part, money is needed for success, and success is needed for enjoyment. And that's what games are about. Enjoyment.

Wilderness Changes:

This has a few parts.

1. Reducing the size of the wilderness

I find this ridiculous. The reason Jagex gave? It would be easier to find other people. I see how it was hard to find other people before the update. If they meant meeting up with clan mates, then those clans really need to work on their communication. If they meant finding people to find, then um...No. Usually, on PK designated worlds, there are hundreds of people north of Varrock and Edgeville. How can you not find people to fight? There was nothing wrong about the size of the previous wilderness. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

2. Taking away PKing in regular wilderness.

Although the revenant ghosts have been added in, PKers were a far greater danger, in my opinion. Without PKers, things such as rune mining, bone collecting (Graveyard/Chaos Altar) and other wilderness activities have become much too easy. Easy things are supposed to be hard to get. It was hard before, with the danger of PKers. Also, now green dragon macros can't be hunted. If Jagex was against macros, why make an update that helps them?

3. No non-combat items in the PK area.

Apparently robes (Not sure about mystic) are non-combat items. :-s

4. Gravestones

At least Jagex didn't add this in Bounty Hunter. But anyway, if you can get your items back after you die, there is no fear of dying. With no fear of dying, then food is basically pointless.

Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars:

These two are good updates, if only they didn't screw up the wilderness and PKing.

Bounty Hunter - You might as well take out the bounty part. Next to no one is killing their target. It's impossible without getting piled by a team. Which leads me to my next point. In many cases, it's impossible without a team.

Clan Wars - All in all, a good update.

Trade/Drop Changes - I may rant later, but right now, I'd like to get my suggestions down.

Phew, that was long. And I still have the suggestions ahead.

[hide=My Suggestions]

Duel Arena Staking Limit:

Simply make it so that the difference between the stakes of the two people cannot be more than 10% of the greater one. For example, Player A stakes 10K. Player B must stake 9K-11K. This goes for item value.

Why this will fulfill the original purpose - RWTs will not be able to duel-stake-trade in mass amounts. People who buy gold will need a lot of money to start out with, in which case, they probably wouldn't be buying gold. In order to buy 100K gold, the buyer must already have 900K in order for the duel to happen.

Grand Exchange Prices:

Create a minimum minimum price. As in a low of the lows. First, the prices would have to be reset to the original price (First day price) if the item has dropped. Then, 80% of the current price would be made the set minimum. The item will never drop past that price. For example, take iron ores. The price when the GE came out was 95-105, I believe. 80% of 100 is 80. So the set minimum for iron ores would be 80. So if everyone starts selling and buying for 95, then the price would drop to 91-99 or something. Eventually, it could possibly drop to 81-85 or something. Everyone sells for 81. The new price would be 80-83, or so. The price would only rise after that.

Why this would fulfill the original purpose - The prices would still remain player-decided, but would not screw up the economy.

F2P Duel Arena:

No staking for F2P. Fun duels only.

Why this would fulfill the original purpose - F2P will have an opportunity of enjoying the fun of dueling, yet would not be able to enjoy all the benefits of it. P2Pers who became P2P mainly because of the duel arena would not feel like they have wasted their money.

-I'm going to switch up the order a little here, it works better this way-

Bounty Hunter:

I went in yesterday, and before it even loaded, I got piled by 5 rangers/mages. I was binded, and couldn't fight back. Bang. Dead. Insert a ring of single combat zones around the outside wall, and possibly in the very middle. This way, singlers can still be successful, and teamers can have their fun.

Increase the penalty of attacking someone other than your target. This way, it will still be BOUNTY Hunter, not attack anyone you want.

Perhaps take it out of the wilderness. The idea of a bank in the middle of the wilderness is quite absurd. And oh yes, allow anything you can wear to be brought in.

Why this will fulfill the original purpose - First of all, the original purpose was to BOUNTY hunt. The increased penalty will help this. Also, people aren't using BH because they know they will get destroy by teams. This would be fixed.

Clan Wars:

I don't think this update really had a huge impact. But still, I think it could use a few tweaks. Basically, I would like to see being able to get items from clan wars. There are a few ways this could work. Both ways involve the leaders of the clans making a decision on whether they want a friendly war, or a staked/dropped war.

Stake - Like Duel Arena. The 10% rule applies.

Why this would fulfill the original purpose - First of all, clans would still be able to have friendly wars. But for those that would like to have wars in which loot is dropped, then this would be good for them. Second of all, RWTs wouldn't be able to use it. Basically the same reasoning as the Duel Arena.

I also tried working on an idea in which if someone died, they would drop their items. It didn't work out, but if anyone could think of a way that could work, I will add it and credit you.

Wilderness Changes:

First, restore the size. I'm not sure if they reduced the size of the land, or just added in two big arenas. (Three?) Anyway, like I said earlier, moving BH could work. Clan Wars could be moved too. It could be a dungeon if needed. Or, it can be one of those things where you step into the portal, and you get teleported to a place that's not on the map. Kind of like houses.

Second, restore PKing. Basically the same as before.

Third, the gravestones. I say keep them. But change them. Keep it so once you die, a gravestone is spawn. But, take away the pray/bless/whatever thing. Now, as for keeping drops. When you die, you drop everything if you're skulled. If you're protect item-ing, then you keep one. Three if you're not skulled, four if you're not skulled and you protect.

Fourth, I'm stealing this off other people. Many people have suggested it. Make it so you cannot take over 5K cash over the ditch. But RWTs will then just sell expensive items. I haven't thought of a way to go against this yet, but I don't see how they can't just use BH. Have the item seller go in with something expensive, and hide in a corner. Then have the item buyer go in, and kill the seller. Doesn't the buyer get the item now? If not, then perhaps implement the same thing in the regular wilderness, if it isn't absurd.

Fifth, just take out the revenant monsters. No one likes them, and I doubt they're killing RWTs.

Why this will be effective - Nearly everyone liked the old wilderness. Those who mine rune and such probably didn't, but I'm pretty sure they'll admit that a danger is needed to justify the value of what they're getting. Revenant monsters are not a danger. They're just pests.

As for RWTs, I have suggested a way to take out money for gold trades. Money for item trades are hard to kill without greatly harming regular players, so I'll leave that for now.

Trading Update:

Same thing as Duel Arena staking. The value difference between what's being offered by each people must be less than 10+% (Number is subject to change, and could vary) of the greater value. The reason I said the number is subject to change and could vary is because at places such as Entrana, law runes for pure essence deals could be allowed, as long as the value of the pure ess is greater than 50% (Or so) of the laws being given. Similar things could be done at other places.

As for how expensive drops could be split? I'm not sure if this would work, but...Lootshare would have a new option. Once the item is dropped, and collected by a member of the clan, a time-tracker would be placed on the item. The member that got it would have an option to automatically put that item on the Grand Exchange. When he puts the offer up, he will have the ability to decide how much goes to who. Instead of him getting all the money, the money will be distributed between the players he chooses, however he wants. The time-tracker will start at 5 minutes, and count down, telling the player every minute. Once the player runs out of time, the item must be sold regularly - How it is now.

As for clans...For those that don't know, clan members often trade each other, doing something for nothing deals. (Usually stuff like food) Once a clan member has been a rank of Corporal or higher for 10 (Or something) days, they will get a small * next to their rank. This means they are eligible for free trade. Free trade is basically trading something for nothing.

Why this will fulfill the original purpose - RWTs won't be able to trade something for nothing, unless they create a clan chat with the buyer, and wait 10 days. In which case, their dealings would be slowed down, and Jagex may be able to find them before then. As for regular, honest players, they shouldn't be harmed too much. We might take some collateral damage, but nothing as bad as right now.

Dropping Update - Yeah. Um. I can't think of a way to get past this. I suppose a few things could be done...

-Everything you drop ends up at Party Pete's, if it's worth more than 10K.

-Everything you drop that's worth less than 10K stays on the ground, same as now.

But still, no private drop parties. Find an unpopular world and go to Party Pete's?

So...That brings an end to this extremely long post. If I get enough positive feedback, and Jagex hasn't fixed it yet, I will post this on the official forums.
