Does def matter?

If you are a mage/ranger, would you benefit from your defence levels?

EG.

I have a lvl99def,lvl99magic guy. A lesser demon combat with me.

I have another lvl1 def, lvl99magic guy. A lesser demon combat with me.

Assuming all other factors are even, which guy would be damaged more or will they take the same damage?

Whether you will take damage or not is based on your defense and your opponent's attack.

The higher your defense, the more chance of your opponent hitting a 0.

The account with 99 defense will have much more 0's hit on him, and thus will take less damage.

The 1 defense thing going around is because it keeps your combat level low, so you can have high combat stats for your level.

Against a lesser demon (assuming you stay behind some obstacle and the demon can't reach you) the damage received would be the same. A big, fat 0.

Defense only helps you avoid attacks. Defense won't reduce the opponent's max hit.

What character are you making? If you're a generalist, go for good defense. If you're going to pk/duel, you're gonna be a pure offensive machine (1 def or 40 def for green dhide).

Yes it affects, but unlike warriors, defense is a non-primary skill to rangers and mages, like prayer.

Well since pking and dueling are both dead, some defence shouldn't hurt, and you get to wear better outfits (20 for mystic, 70 for ahrims etc.).
