zonda
Well you basically are buying a whole new system, or at least darn close to it. The only thing you should be careful about when upgrading a computer that old is that: You know the mother board will support all the new stuff your getting and it has all the correct pin sockets and the like. (For example, you wouldn't want to buy DDR RAM if your mother board only supports the old PC RAM) ...
Bmw
Well I've decided to scrap that idea, and just build an entire new system lol. So i'll be around posting when things get going...asking for help of course!! To start off, perhaps tell me if I'm missing anything major? Already have monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, printer Chaintech AMD Athlon 64 3200 Motherboard + Processor - $280 512 SD Ram - $110 USB Card - $50 Graphics Card - $150 Case - $100 DVD/CD Burner - $70 CD Drive - $30 Hard Drive - $50 Floppy Drive - $30 And then I'm a bit sketchy on the power supply..not too sure what to buy there. Estimating about $50 for it... So total cost is abit over $1000..which is what I'm aiming for. To sum it up...I would love some help on finding the right power supply for all of this, and this might sound kinda stupid, but does anything come with instructions, lol?? I have a general understanding of how to do this from upgrading in the past/just looking inside my computer seeing how its all set up, so you think i'll have any troubles? Thanks, Bmw

Thanks, Bmw Make sure you have a CPU fan (and thermal paste if your CPU doesn't come assembled), enough IDE cables to hook up your CD drive, DVD burner, and Hard Drive. You might NOT want to buy a new floppy drive, unless you think you'll use it. Most new motherboards don't require a floppy drive anymore. (maybe buy a USB flash drive?) You might not need to buy a USB card, since most motherboards come with 4 or more USB 2 ports, so you can save a PCI slot and some cash. Don't skimp on your power supply. Make sure it can supply enough power to your components. Usually the higher the wattage, the better. (you wouldn't want your computer screwing up because your video card drew too much power!) Also, you can buy a your power supply pre installed in your case.

Bmw
I'll post the exact link a bit before I finalize my order, as I don't know exactly which model of each i'll be getting. However, all items are from tigerdirect.ca Also, I'm going to follow through in upgrading the old computer anyways for my dad, but I have no idea what type of ram we have right now. I ran CPU Z, and it doesn't say :? :x

Pyro
For the power supply, don't bother too much with wattage, as it means next to nothing. Ask people who have used particular brands how well they work, and read various reviews. I would recomend something from Antec, Hiper, Forton or OCZ, but I guess it depends on what brands the particular store has. My point is simply that wattage means very little, since there are so many ways to measure it. Besides, stability is a lot more important. The average computer does not use more than 250W.
