I've been having a problem with my mouse for some time.. The pointer speed randomly fluctuates in the middle of doing things.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can't reproduce the problem, and I don't know what happens, all I know is that it can happen at any time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My mouse just randomly starts going slower, and then I have to go in my mouse properties (which is now permanently in my quicklaunch :lol: ) and change the speed to something faster/slower depending.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have a "Mircosoft IntelliMouse Optical USB and PS/2 Compatible" mouse..

Mmm, on my old computer I had a problem where my cursor speed would jump to the slowest setting, so I would have to go in and manually change it back to the fastest one... never found out what caused it nor did I find a fix for it, but I never really tried either...

I've discovered that the problem is worsening, sometimes my mouse will stop for periods up to 15 seconds now, and totally "lose power" (optical mouse).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On the bright side, I've discovered the problem- seems there is a short somewhere in the mouse cord, as if I jiggle it a bit, the mouse comes alive again.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Think MS will give me a new mouse? :>

I think so.. if it's still under warranty

Not really sure why a hardward fault with the mouse would change settings in the control panel :-? Does it happen if you use another mouse? (assuming you have one.)

Cameron, you missed the point. The hardware goes slower/faster, and then spling can use the control panel (where the settings haven't changed) to correct that. At least, that's what I'm reading here.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As for the new mouse bit... generally, these kinds of warranties make you pay shipping to return the old one. Now, for me, that mostly means to someplace foreign, it might not be the same for you, but since it's a package, that tends to be more expensive than just getting a new one... You'd have to ask in wherever you bought it (if you can still prove you have a warranty), and take a decision depending on what they tell you. Using the warranty and shipping it might also mean you're without a mouse for an indefinite amount of time :( (They tend to take a while if they want to repair it). On the other hand, if the shop had any warranty on it, they might give you a new one. Depends how/where you bought it, really :(

I've had to replace my mouse from MS.. they just send another one and you don't have to pay for anything
