June 15, 200818 yr I thought my familiar would disappear when it reaches zero, but it doesn't...and I can still use its special move. Is it that you can't summon a new familiar at zero summoning points? I don't really understand the point of having summoning points drain like prayer when there are mini obelisks practically everywhere. I can't seem to find the answer in the RS Knowledge base. June 15, 200818 yr Yep they are needed to summon a new familier, they only really come into play when you are doing something like a long DK solo mage trip. If you have your invy planned around...say 6 unicorns (max i have seen used efficiently), you would be able to summon the first 2 but then you would have 0 summon points. However only a small amount of points is needed to summon a new familier, so you only need one drink of summon pot to summon a new one. Apart from situations such as this they are basically irelivent, and at most a minor inconvenience.
