A forum for debates, but this power is slowly transferring to General Discussions, which kind of makes the DC of no use. We do have some ingenious players in here who have some pretty good ideas (like Local Guy, Zierro), but to spur the maximum discussion/debate, all ideas are posted in the GD.

 

 

 

Why?

 

 

 

Don't we have a forum for that? Specially for debates?

 

 

 

The posting of debateable topics at the GD is making it VERY crowded, and added to the normal spam, GD has only half of the page as reasonable GD topics.

 

 

 

The only topics I see in DC today are the ones which may get flamed a lot on the GD (like Dragon armours and possible monsters) and others are just questionaires.

 

 

 

There are quite a few topics on the DC asking us, our opinion directly without the owner himself making a comment. Better for the Questionaires forum if you take my opinion.

 

 

 

Rarely do we get to see a reasonable debate in this forum which is kind of resulting in less visits.

 

 

 

If we are going to use the GD for all the debates, what is the point in this forum? And if this forum has an objective of lessening the workload of the GD, then it isn't doing that great a job, is it?

 

 

 

I have posted this in the Debate Club as this topic is regarding it, however, if I do feel I haven't received the response I expected, I will be posting this in the General Discussions.

The DC was originally an offshoot of the Rants forum, to allow the people who frequented Rants to debate and discuss issues to do so without all the pathetic 'FFS PRAY NUB GRRGRGR' crap that the ranters wanted to 'vent'.

 

 

 

There was quite a bit of friction between the posters who just wanted to air their fustrations, and ones who had heard the same frustrations aired a million times already and were searching for interesting points of contention to discuss.

As things changed, you're quite right in saying that a lot of things get put in GD that could be just as well discussed here. I'm unsure atm of what would fix this, or if it even needs fixing at all.

Not enough people know about Debate Club. The problem is publicity. However, lots of people have said it - publicity would just bring in the idiots.

 

 

 

I totally agree with your point about the OP posting something that's a good enough subject for debate, but then not saying anything on the subject theselves. I remember some old topics from six or seven months ago, when we were still a subforum of Rants, that were huge, and the thing was, every post was at least a paragraph, and we made posts that would fill whole browser windows. The problem is that people leave, and we don't get enough people coming in to offset that. We end up with less people, resulting in less interesting debates, resulting in less people, and it's just a vicious circle.

 

 

 

I think we should go on aggressive recruitment. The only problem is the idiots. I'd suggest something like the Falador Library - posting rights limited to those who apply, and able to be revoked at any time. Same thing with spam and leetspeak - it should be deleted. We want good debates, not a bunch of idiots flaming each other.

 

 

 

So the dilemma is this: We need more people, but we don't want to get the bad with the good. How do we manage that? I dunno.
