i was wondering. do i need to keep the bronze-mith defenders if i am keeping the addy and rune? (keeping the addy in case i loose my rune) will i still be able to get a rune defender drops?

no just keep the addy

Yeah you can get rid of them. I'd advise getting multiple rune defenders so you can drop your addy defender as well though.
