What I don't get is why we can reach the areas they are at but can't fight them. Why else do we need a antid sheild for other than dragon slayer.

The reason why you can reach area but you don't see monster p2p sees,is because p2p worlds are diffrent content. Anti fire shield is only used for dragon slayer quest in f2p as far as i know of, other than that you might save it in your bank if you consider subscribing for membership any soon. Keep it or sell it,its ur choice
