Aeriath
Sorry to double post again, just updating the sig after my first ever go at shading and colour outlining. I need some help with skin tones, I can't seem to make any good ones, any tips? Curse you Nomad!
_k0m0d0_
Its getting good, will you do anymore updates?
Aeriath
Thanks k0m0d0, and yes I will be updating as long as I get CC *cough*Godslayerspamming*cough* Curse you Nomad!
_k0m0d0_
The rune kite(g) is good, but the gold trim on is too bright, make it less brighter
Aeriath
It supposed to be a sara kite, do you know a way I could make that clearer? Curse you Nomad!
venomai
Sorry to double post again, just updating the sig after my first ever go at shading and colour outlining. I need some help with skin tones, I can't seem to make any good ones, any tips? Its good for a start! I'm no pro, but i'll try to give some c/c The cape is a little bright, and the yellow strokes don't really help. Also hard to tell if the cape is actually shaded because its so bright. Some of the other objects are very bright (the shield, the bright shoes, belt, and gloves on the left character) and a bit too strong on the eyes. The strokes on those rings don't look too great, if you replaced it maybe with some anti-alasing or very light strokes, it might look better. They aren't on the same angle as the rest of the image. The lava in the background looks good, nice and varied, except it also doesn't lie on the correct angle. Right now it looks like a top-down view, kinda throws off the depth of the sig. Where is the dragon axe coming from? And how is it positioned on the rock like that without sinking into the lava? If you are trying to get it stuck in, it doesn't look like that right now. If you make some of the rock colours spill over onto the red, it would make it look a lot more realistic and as if the axe is actually stuck in the rock. Anyways, good luck with that, and as for skin tones... Its pretty simple, just find a nice base, and make a pallet from lighter/darker shades of that colour, and also try to find some differently saturated tones (some skin on the face has more saturation than other parts, such as our rosey cheeks). Try not to use too many shades, it can get busy down there :P If you are having troubles finding the right colours, look on google for tutorials on 'skin tones' tutorials. There are a bunch out there, and some even go into detail on where the face will usually receive highlights and shadows.
Aeriath
That's some good CC venomai. - The cape is menat to be the legends cape, I could try grey shades instead of yellow for the shading. - Most of it is not shaded, the PHat is basically how the gloves and shoes will turn out, as I haven;t shaded them yet. Have you any ideas on how to dull down the sara kites colours? - Um, this is gonna sound bad, but what is anti-aliasing? - The lava, I had a comment about it's angle, and did ask how to improve it however no-one was very responsive. Thanks for the advice on skin tones, I'll search google in a second. Curse you Nomad!
_k0m0d0_
It supposed to be a sara kite, do you know a way I could make that clearer? Sorry, it looks like rune (g), I dont have any ideas right now to give you
dogtag_dez
lol clever idea to hidng it but.. looks too much like a toga in my oppion. good idea but how about instead of that put a robe over part of the pl8 and the legs? toga toga tog. whoo. anyways, way nice for a first one ( im no guru, im currently having a go at my third pixel  ) also in the background make the bits of rock get smaller owards the top
venomai
Well.. I'll try to explain the angle issue with a little pic. But I havn't checked this to align it with your sig, I'm just giving you an idea of different angles. And you don't need to draw the gridlines, of course.. :P As for the shield, I was thinking of something a little darker. I haven't seen a 'sara kite' (I've been retired from rs for quite a while now) so I'm not sure what the colours look like.. And to fix the cape, you should first lower the brightness and saturation of the colours (or better yet, of all your colours ;)). Then you can give it shadows. Even though its a white fabric, it will still receive shadows like anything else... You're also doing one hell of a job of keeping the colours low. Grats :P PS: Are you using a very dark monitor? A lot of the colours used, even on things like the party hat, seem to be at max brightness and saturation for that hue. Too bright, especially for a paper hat! EDIT: Oh, and about anti-aliasing, check the tutorials on this page: http://www.spriteart.com/main.html (more specifically; [link])
Alley_Oops
Im not really an artist or anything but to me it seems like there isnt enough detail into the armour and body. It seens like they have flat armour or something. I'd say its a decent start. Good luck with it.

Aeriath
Wow, that's a lot of posts in one night, right, where to start. Venomai, thatnks again for the excellent CC. Those drawings have given me a few ideas to tinker with. Now, I'm quite new to GraphicsGale, and any imaging software, soi I need to ask how to adjust hue, saturation and brightness? I probably am using a dark monitor, as TFT's need to be in the middle of your eyesight, and since I am quite small it all seems darker. Dogtag, thanks for that idea too. k0m0d0, that looks beter than my attemps, that colour is great, I might change it slightly, and use it for the cape too. Right, I think that's about it, so I'll get to work on what I can while I wait for some replies. Curse you Nomad!

Glad you like it, I tryed shading the cape, but I didnt knew what color you wanted, so I only colored the kite and added the border. You want a white cape? If you dont mind, can I give a try, only for practice?
_k0m0d0_
*half an hour later* Heres my try for a white cape. I could try for any other capes, like sara, but this would take a bit long cuz I'm not good at pixels.. Ok heres it: Tell me what you think

Ok heres it: Tell me what you think Oh, its supposed to be white! Thats good, but it looks too solid right now. You need to still add more shadows, with slightly darker grays. This is just a rough example. You can see a stronger difference between the shades on the shield and cape (the cape was just an eperiment though, I think I may have overdone it :P). Pretty subtle change...
