Just submitting a correction, you don't actually need 45 logs of the same type to do this quest.

 

 

 

I did the quest with 20 willow logs (in the first beacon), then 20 normal logs (in the second beacon), and then when I had to add 5 logs to the normal beacon I added 5 normal logs.

EDIT: I did the quest this way so I can confirm it. You simply need to have 25 of the first kind and 20 of the second (or 45 of the same)

I found it much easier just to chop the nearby oak tree instead of banking. Much quicker in my opinion.

Whilst this is very true, at the time I didn't bring my WC axe so I just ran to the closest bank and got 20 willow logs whilst I was there so I didn't have to chop any :P.
