Furah
I recently got Ubuntu, and it's great, except for these two things every time the internet is disconnected or I put it on suspended mode it I have to go and manually configure it which some times takes ages, any way to fix this? and also firefox won't play any sounds, I uninstalled and reinstalled flash player to no effect. I have searched through the preferences, but have not found anything odd I am running Ubuntu 8.4.0 Desktop LTD and also downloaded all the updates last night, so I am guessing that my drivers are up to date, right? and everything else has sound, so I don't understand it. JoeDaStudd
Specs of the PC/Laptop would be nice. How are you connecting to the net? When you say firefox isn't making any sounds does that include embedded music? Furah
Laptop Specs: 1.73 Ghz Intel CPU 2GB RAM Windows Vista SP1 and Ubuntu 8.04 OS (dual booting, hard drive was partitioned by Wubi, once I know how to run WINE fully I'll be removing Vista) don't have much time to write anythign else, and the only audio it seems to be playing is the embedded music in myspace Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. Errdoth
For the sound in firefox, going into synaptic and installing flashplugin-nonfree is what worked for me. Last.fm Signature Overlays
Makoto_the_Phoenix
Oh, I see everything clearly as far as the hibernation goes. Wubi, while a great beginners tool to Ubuntu, won't let you hibernate. I haven't worked with it personally, but from reading reports of it from 7.10 until now, my guess is that it won't let you hibernate because there is no swap partition. Again, I don't know if that theory is true, but I can confirm that Wubi won't hibernate for now. As far as the sound goes, flashplugin-nonfree should work. Furah
thanks for fixing the sound issue, I reinstalled it and it now works perfectly :) and the issue isn't really with the hibernating, it is with the fact that it will say it is connected to the network, yet it isn't and it is difficult to make it connect Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. Makoto_the_Phoenix
Run an 'ifconfig' command and post the output of that here. Then, if you please, run an 'iwconfig' and post that here, too. Lastly, I'll have you run 'lspci', and post that here, too. That'll help figure out what your ethernet/wireless chipset is. Makoto_the_Phoenix
Well it looks like your wireless IS connected, but I'll need to know what your wireless chipset is before I can finish up. lspci is a valid command; I just ran it and it gave me the information that I needed to know. If it's not installed, that's kinda bizarre -- didn't think that it wouldn't have it. If it's not there, just rattle off the Wireless chipset/card you're using, if you can remember it offhand.
