ipod mini hacking

Featured Replies

Hi all,

my Ipod Mini (2G) only has 4gb of memory, and there are over 8 gigs of music on my itunes.

I've read some tutorials about replacing the microdrive with a flash card, and I'd like to try it.

What I want to know is, will any type of flash card work? Can I just go buy one and put it in, or are there different types?

Could I buy a flash stick and just take out the card? Would that still work?

I'm not worried about the warrenty etc, that ran out decades ago.

I would expect the method to be tricky and have fairly strict guide lines.

ie you need x tool, x connector, x part, ect.

Your best bet is to find a guide and follow it as closely as possible.

Ps. you know it will possibly fubar your iPod right?

I've read some tutorials, and found a decent one. It doesn't look that complicated.

You basically remove the insides of the ipod and replace the microdrive with a flash card.

It's possible I'll screw up my ipod, but I don't really use it anyway, this is just a project and it's something quite cool, and I should be getting a new ipod classic 80gb for christmas. :)
