Tormented wraith without prayer!

Been testing a bit more... My current adviced method is not to melee it: but range it instead!

The method I use is even faster than when I go meleeing (all my combat stats are around 85-89) with both a scimitar or black dagger poisoned. Also it won't use prayer potions.

Instead I use black knives: I loose around 10-15/kill so that's: 15*65 = 975 gp/kill. The black drops only pay off for the knifes normally! (if you high alch them).

Here is how my setup (atm) is:

black med helm

glory (fury is better)

avas device

black chainbody

black kite shield

black knives

black platelegs

barrow gloves

jennica's ring

snakeskin boots (ranger boots are better)

in inventory: 2 prayer pots, 2 baskets of strawberries, lots of high alchemies.

how to get there

There are a few ways to get there:

1) if you're on ancients dareeyak teleport will bring you north west of the black warrior castle: it's a quick run then. Don't advice you to do this though, the wraith drops lots of alchable goodies so missing on high alchemy quickly halves your profits

2) trollheim teleport + trollheim wilderness route. This is the second shortest route, however requires decent agility (64).

3) Game necklace to the bounty hunter area: Also a very good option, slightly longer than trollheim though

4) edgevile: definately worse than the above 3 options: but still only a short walk. + you can make a pitstop at the monastry.

How to kill it

Well this is the most important part of course... There are 2 "ways" to kill it, which you both need. The first method is just using pray + standard luring so it's lined up at the boxes (refer to any halberd guide to know how this works, it's similar to sidestepping at barrows). This does require some prayer though. You will need to use this method on the very first kill, or when you're getting 'crashed'.

The second method you should try to use in all other cases: it doesn't require prayer AT ALL. However it only works in these circumstances:

You're the only one there it's aggressive against, AND you stand "in position" before it spawns already. So generally it works only after the first kill on a world.

What you do is open the door and stand directly outside of it. If the wraith spawns it will be aggressive and head towards you: now quickly close the door before it reaches you. It will stay aggressive! (if the door is closed before it spawns it won't become aggressive at all).

Now do 2 steps south (or north). The wraith will also move 1 step south/north resp. Then move back to the door and open the door. Now the wraith will stay at it's spot and it should be southwest/northwest of you. Open the door and it still won't come closer to you, yet you can range it :).

Now it's time to range him: good luck!

a small vid I made (sorry for the bad quality, don't have time to edit it) - I was 85 ranged, unpotted not praying at that moment:

drop list

Well it's incomplete yet: and tipit is probably better as a reference but some things it can drop and that I really liked:

-spirit shield (2 times in 300 kills)

-80 oak planks

-5-10 various high level runes

-12 mithril darts (p)

-LOTS of black armor (alch this)

-3 unnoted addy abars

-LOTS of blue (and gold/crimson) charms

Haven't seen sigils/elixers from it though.. So I doubt it actually drops them.

evaluation

Is this usefull? Yes on quiet times/when the initial crowd dies down. Untill that is the case you're better of with going with like 2-3 people to kill it.

In case you go with 2 or more people you can of course still use this technique: just let the other stay at the final spot without wielding full black: once you aligned up everything the others should take their stuff and start pelting knifes too!

Is there a faster way! - Yes of course there is: what you could do is leave the door open, and quickly run 1 step north (north, south won't work in this case) while it's approaching you. In that case the wraith will move north too. However thanks to "rounding"/"how the paths work" you need to do this while the wraith is at least 2 spaces away from the door (and 3 from you): else it might (if it's between 2 and 1 spaces) or will (if it's between 1 and 0) move "around" the door. In which case you're better off praying everything. Closing the door is a quick way instead.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Tried to set up a cannon: that worked...

However all balls hitted 0.. After 90 balls i decided it was enough and stopped, so cannon: failure!

I stopped trying my cannon after 3 shots, a message appears showing that it is ineffective.

Also, bringing an archer ring of ring of wealth if soloing works too, you only need jennica's to enter.
