Reformatting

so, i got an external harddrive which i'm using to back up my information that i need prior to reformatting, i'm looking for what exactly i need to copy to the drive, besides all my other stuff, like music and pictures and stuff.

 

 

 

e.g. for the drivers for everything, i have the system information thing open, and it lists all the components of my computer, and where the drivers are located for each, i have to copy all these files right?

 

 

 

any information would be helpful, including information about the reformat itself, not just backing stuff up. i've never done this before :ohnoes:

 

 

 

oh, and i'm currently on XP SP2

Here's a few questions to start:

 

1. [*:355oufbf]Did you buy the computer pre-assembled?
    
   [*:355oufbf]Was there any discs provided with it?
    
   [*:355oufbf]Is there any directories that just look like driver stocks from the original manufacturer, possibly located on the base (root) level of the 'C:' Drive? :geek:

 

 

 

Finally, why are you in need of a reformat? :-s

wheee peter helped me in irc, so yeah i don't need this topic anymore.

 

 

 

and i needed a reformat because i haven't reformatted this computer in like, the 4 years i've had it, and it had so much stuff i don't even use, i didn't know how to properly sort through it all, so i got rid of everything except my music and base programs, and redownloaded anything else i needed. thanks for trying to help though :)
