Ranged Tank...any chances on PvP servers?

Featured Replies

Hi, I made this thread to get some advice from more experienced

Pkers about Pking on the PvP servers as a Ranged Tank.

My current stats are:

Combat 105 (100 real combat)

76 Att (wasn't intended as a Ranged Tank since the beginning)

75 Str (idem)

Almost 88 Def (around 170k xp left, getting 90 soon)

90 Range

71 Mage (low, I know)

87 HP

62 Prayer

38 worthless summon levels :wall:

Now, I had many victories both in Duel Arena and the FFA Safe

Arena against people over +10 combat levels above me, specially

"Str" pkers, by using this setup:

Torag Helm and Legs, Black D-Hide vambs, Obby Cape, Dragon

Boots (against meleers)/Ranger boots* against rangers or mages,

DFS*, Fury*, Rune C'bow with broad bolts, Archers Ring*.

*Equipment that I won't risk on the PvP servers. I'll go mainly

for the thrill of wandering over the map and bashing on anyone

within my level range.

My main concern are Ancienters...specially when they tend to

hybridize. I would like to know your ideas about how to have good

chances against most types of pkers. I already know how to deal

with meleers, by combining defensive and offensive bonuses,

although I will be forced to replace the high end gear, like DFS,

with lesser one, but the main problem, like I said, comes from

Hybrid Ancienters, IMO.

Any help will be very welcome.

Same problem for me.

What would be a type of PKer that would do well on the coming new PvP servers? Tanks?

I personally think the Hybrid pker's are the best so I dont really know how to counter them other then to stay with your main tank set up and turn on protect melee, if your planning to no honor.

Otherwise, I'd say just range those guys to death, with Diamond bolts (e) and a Dark bow spec if your willing to risk a D bow. Or you could use that kind Attack and Strength to some use and use the infamous DDS specials. They should do at least a little bit of damage against the average Hybrid at your level. Then when they turn on protect melee, switch back to range and take them out.

Sorry if my advice didn't help too much. But i'm a hybrid myself and i don't die too often in BH or well anywhere.

I don't use protection prayers unless my opponent does.

About the D-Bow, it is a good tool, but I won't pk for profit.

Wandering anywhere and trying to kill anyone within my range level

to achieve victory is what I am interested in. Diamond bolts,

probably. Good idea about the DDP++.

Thanks for your comments.

Range/mage or Mele/mage hybrids shouldn't give you a problem. They put on Ahrim's/Mystic to mage you, you tear em apart with your range. Even if they don't go full mage gear to have higher range def, you'll still have an advantage on them, considering they have lower than usual range def and you're wearing d hide so you've got decent mage protection.

Imo, range/melee hybrids is what you should worry about.

*reads your sig*

Yea I dont think being 99 all cb stats makes you a hybird, infact I think it makes you "maxed"

?

Hybrids by far are my fav PKers ... tanks may be better, as long as you have uuber def and uuber armor.

Yeah, good point. I still need to raise Magic at least to 82, though.

About Range/Melee...I agree, someone with 99 range will hit easily

on me, but I will probably hit as easily (even not maxed) on them.

Tank against tank...I don't know. I had many victories against

them, and against Voids (those are easy, tbh) but also a share of

defeats. Anyways, the first days I will just mess around on junk

armour. I find it quite amusing trying to see how long I last

going from point A to point B before getting killed. Like I said, I will

Pk for fun, not profit. Maybe I will send one or two pkers to their

respawn point along the way.

Cheers.
