Keyloggers and firewalls

I'm kind of paranoid when it comes to viruses and trojans and such and the other day my firewall prompted me indicating that "a suspicious script had been detected and stopped" (or something along those lines). I ran about every virus scanner and keylogger scanner that I had or found on the internet but I haven't detected anything. If my firewall had indeed blocked a keylogger from sending out information from my computer, will it completely block it as long as I dont turn off my firewall? Also, how hard is it for a spyware/virus/trojan ect scanner to find a keylogger on a system?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could detect a keylogger on my system or have any antivirus scanner sites that maybe I have not heard of before? I've used all of the scanners indicated in the sticky in the help forum already. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Did you try and find out what the script was ? Maybe it had nothing to do with a keylogger.

As long as your firewall is on, it should ask you if you want such and such to connect. That's how most software firewalls work, they block on a per-software basis.

If you've scanned with both anti-virus and spyware programs, you're good. As long as these progs were up-to-date of course.

Zone alarm blocks tons of "high-risk" intrusion attempts yet nothing bad happens when i dont turn it on. :?

They're selling you updates: "oh it blocked a high-risk one, this program is worth my money !" ;) (I'm only half-kidding though)

Seriously, most intrusions require you to have a trojan already on your computer so they can take control. They're simply probing to see if you've been infected before and if they can therefore do something. If you have an anti-virus, keep it updated and it's good, then you'll be ok most of the time without a firewall. I'm not trying to say a firewall's not needed, because it is (if you install a new program and you want to make sure it doens't connect to the net without you knowing or if it's not supposed to and it tries, but it's not like you install new stuff every single day I'm sure :)), but it's good to keep in mind what it's for.

the suspicious script could have been anything really...

There are times when I try to do stuffi n the control panel of my computer and my anti virus will say that I am about to run a "suspcious script" even though it is something made by windows and intended to do something beneficial.

I doubt it was anything serious, and if you have scanned with what you say you have then I doubt you are in any harm.

It is very easy for virus scanners to "find" trojans/keyloggers as long as you keep your definitions up to date, and you scan your computer in safe mode you shouldn't have problems.

You can read some more about this kind of stuff Here

(note: That is a site I had to make for school, so there were certain guide lines I had to follow like *must use 1 blah blah blah* so it doesn't look the best, and there are a few typo's because I did it in about 10 minutes  )

Its not wise to depend on your firewall blocking the keylogger each and everytime.

Sooner or later your firewall will fail.

Dunno, it said so in a message box, which is unusual.
