i have a friend who is a f2p guy and he was wanting my help. if i was 2 wear some member armour in a free world....would it still work....like all the stats and stuff?

Nope. You could wear it and show it off, but it would just say "Members object" and have no status effects whatsoever. Also, if you removed it, you would'nt be able to put it back on until you return to a P2P world.
