Media Musuem/Hall of Fame? -Just a thought-

Well you know we have alot of good artists here.

And every once in a blue moon, we do see a work that definitely stands out from the rest. Pixelated, Photoshoped or otherwise.

Sometimes the person who ordered them do use them and we are able to see them around in the forums.

Unfortunately, some of these works do vanish away into obscurity...

This is a suggestion for a "Media Musuem/Hall of Fame".

Works can be submitted by authors and voted upon by the people so that if popular enough, it can be "hanged and displayed" within a dedicated topic.

The process:

1.) It starts with the work being nominated.

For example, lets say an author entered in a competition a beautiful piece.

People who want to nominate it will say so within the competition topic that it is worth "hanging."

2.) If enough people agree with it, then it can be then brought to the attention of our dedicated panel of Judges (Our very own Media board Mods maybe?)

3.) The Judges can then decide to create a poll with which viewers can have the opportunity to criticize the reasons for either allowing the piece to be "hanged" or not.

4.) If the piece has been deemed worthy and the arguments and votes for it to be "hanged" are strong, then it will have the honor to be added within the museum. (The authors themselves will have no part in the decision making to about influencing votes.) The piece shall be graded by its average score. 5/5 etc.

5.) Now we do have to make certain that the only pieces to go in are that of high quality and standard. If the last 4 stages can't assure this, I suggest a "Top 10-20-etc " rule so that the best has the opportunity to shine among the rest. All others that didn't meet the criteria can be sidelined to another spot on the thread. (They still made it in anyway)

Now that ive thought of it, the idea sounds complicated dont it?

Lots of work, biased opinions, issues of unfairness, topic size, clashing egos, confusion, ripping/scamming/copyright issues, organization problems, spam-like pieces, noobs/know-it-alls, accomodation problems, blackmailing, bribes, angry mobs, alien abductions, nuclear war, murder... Okay im just spamming now.

And did I mention ALOT OF WORK? The process might not be even worth the trouble, I know...

But on the other hand;

People will enjoy them, artists will be inspired, increased competion=better works, adds class and recognition for our forum and a short, 15 minutes of fame for the lucky ones. (my brain stopped working... I cant think of anything else...)

This is just a thought, no need for for stingy, half-minded comments...

You know as well as I do that It wont probably work.

But the most I can ask from you guys is a discussion about it. Good enough?

I like the idea..

On another forum (non-rs related) they have like a forum where all the top quality images are located, maybe we could do something similar to that. Maybe also bring in a new group or something to pick the best sigs etc..

If this is done I say no sigs. This would really help people focus on creating art that isn't sig based since that's all we get here. A lot of people will disagree with me, but whatever.

I agree with Ryan, and it would be good for that reason, but past that I don't see it happening.

I wouldn't mind seeig some of the other great artists' work all in one thread... But what purpose does this serve, other than boosting the ego of the better artists on the site?

I'd prefer a thread with a lot of poorly made artwork (maybe on purpose by those who know what is wrong) and the replies will all be heavy critiques on what the artist did wrong. Beginners would be able to read off of this and find out major flaws in various types of art, and improve their own skills by reading this.

Hmm good point.

And Venomai, how bout a mirror thread like you said?

You know, one thread consisting of only good ones, and the other consisting of bad ones. (poor people though...)

The first shows how a good one should be done. It wont be just dedicated to one person. It will contain works and styles from other artists. So it balances out a bit.

On the other, it contains like what you said, the things shouldn't do and tips on how you can improve.

Bring them together and you get a self-teaching tutorial!

Heck, we can even ask the author to put out a short, steps-of-creation process on how they did it.

It doesnt have to be dedicated to sigs too. Like wall papers for more ambitious ones.

(although we do have other sites for that... sounds like a waste...)

And white, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Problem is, who would bother to do one. :( Thats a big hurdle right there.
