How Will We Stop Keyloggers?? Look Here!!

Featured Replies

this must be the worst fear of every runescape player for something to happen to their account. you try to log in, and suddenly you see the text: "invalid username or password" or "your account is already logged in, please try again in 60 seconds". most of this happens because of keyloggers on the victims PC, wich they get by visiting a fan site/clicking on an attachment of an Email from "jagex", or something like that.

We need to stop this nonsense.

my idea is to let JAGeX give every player a 4 digit pin code.

they will need to put this in after typing there password.

But heres the "stopping keylogger part" they will need to click this in with there mouse. and to stop programs monitoring mouse clicks the numbers on the keypad will switch location after every time you log in.

so the keypad will look like this:

5 7 3

2 6 9

1 4 0

8

and it will change position every time.

and if you click it wrong for 3 times in succession you will be kicked out of the login screen and will need to load again.

PLEASE LOCK THIS

This has been posted so many times, and it wont work, certain keyloggers take a picture of your screen.

I'm sure there is actually a word for word replica of this idea in another thread.

To put it bluntly though my man, it still wouldn't prevent it.

But keep up the anti-cheater perspective :)

it wouldnt prevent it, but wont it help at least a little bit?? the normal keyloggers would stop working, hackers would have to use special ones that monitor your entire screen

If it still wouldn't ultimately work then it would be more of a pain than a protection.

Also most people wouldnt get keylogged if they wern't trying to cheat themselves.

lots of people get keyloggers by just looking on a fansite (people have keyloggers in links in there sigs, for example). they are not trying to get auto-programs.

Getting keylogged is the victim's own fault. Do not use Internet Explorer unless you want automatically downloading trojans. Use Firefox or Opera instead. Install WinXP SP2 to patch the jpeg hole (if you use XP).

You can't get script kiddie keyloggers by just loading a webpage unless you use Internet Explorer. It's the only browser that can be exploited by script kiddies - other browsers have MUCH less holes. Completely bugless programs don't exist.

Slight exaggeration, but a good point raised.

it always surprises me how people say getting scammed/keylogged/hacked is "entirely the victims fault" because it is not.

it is the scammers/hackers fault for trying to scam someone (and eventually succeeding) and also a bit JAGeXs fault, because they let the scamming get out of hand, and they dont have a customer suport section that is bigger than 2 people.

sure it is also a bit your fault, but you should be able to use internet explorer (which is the most popular browser, despite all its holes and flaws) on a RS Fansite without getting 10 000 keyloggers on your PC.

I use IE..... not problems for me....

Anywya IE7 is coming out soon that should solve a lot of the old bugs that Microsoft can't be bothered to fix... and even up the competition with FireFox too...

Why should I have to suffer having to enter a PIN code every time I log in, just because others get keylogged. If you make your system secure then there is really no need to worry about keyloggers.

I think you should listen to what Karvinen has said, because he speaks the truth about stuff like this.

ok. you people are right, this was a bad idea.

please do not post anymore and let this topic die.

(I know I'm posting, sorry ) But atleast you've had the curteousy to acknowledge that Muijs. If more people could do that this board would be much better :)
