He has written over fifty works, most horror, but some are fantasy and sci fi (I'm looking at the dark tower). He has influenced my works, and its mostly because of his convuluted writing. My favorite book of his is called "The Shining". It is about a hotel in the Colorado mountains that closes for winter, and a man takes the job of caring for it over this period. As he does, he becomes crazy, and it seems that ghosts are making him crazy. Or are they, was it just because he was going crazy himself? Most of you have probably seen the movie, but it does not compare to the sheer power of the book. It left you toying with the concept, wondering why Jack tried to kill his wife and son. This has been an influence on me deeply. Leaving the reader to figure something out is a great way to make you feel somewhat involved in the story, allows you to work on background stories yourself. And when you read a book, and there are still questions in your head, you know the author did his job. His Dark tower books are also a huge part of what makes him my favorite author. They mixed in with most of his books, which was really neat. Never has an author made books that were completely different, and been able to tie them together. He even included himself in the story! An amazing series that only Stephen King could write. So, if you have never read a book by him, try his works. He is one of the best authors you will ever read. __________________________________________________________________________________ ----Stories---- ----Oceans---- As I write this on the sand using blood from the back of my hand I look at the neverending ocean It waves come down and lap at my feet It provides me with fish to eat The abandoned island I stand on today could easily get washed away The plane crashed here several days ago I was working on a travel channel show The turbines sucked in a bird And a whining the pilot heard We crashed into the islands mountains The plane created a water fountain I got out nearly every bone broken I got to the sand, my whole body sodden Please help me I am starving bad If I die I will not be too sad its the way the world works, can't play with god So to my cave, before night falls, I'll trod. __________________________________________________________________________________ WANT TO CONTRIBUTE? January 3, 200917 yr Lisa Rogak-Haunted Heart: The Life and Times of Stephen King *squee* I... WANT... THAT... BOOK... OMG!!! It left you toying with the concept, wondering why Jack tried to kill his wife and son. *smacks with newspaper* No spoilers! I haven't read that one yet! soaken Don't make up words just so your poem can rhyme! :shame: Here be dragons ^ Dragon of the Day
January 3, 200917 yr As for Stephen King... I rather like him. He self-parodies a lot though... One hath reached rock bottom when one hath degraded to self-parody. Here be dragons ^ Dragon of the Day
January 3, 200917 yr I haven't read a lot of Stephen King . . . I got The Stand for Christmas and have made little headway in it. There's something about his style that just puts me off. It feels like what he wants to say gets lost in the execution. I read a scene in The Stand where a car crashes into a gas pump, and had to reread it about six times to understand exactly what happened. That's pretty much unheard of for me.

I had that problem with the stand too...i never finished it because it was just so damn long and he did not write it as well as they say...he has a lot of much better books out there...
January 4, 200917 yr I haven't read a lot of Stephen King . . Imagine a paragraph where the author describes everything the characters are doing. Sam breathed evenly as he walked twenty paces down a sidewalk in Beverly Hills. He saw Mrs. Maple, who was also breathing evenly and walking her cinnamon-colored Pomeranian, Schoodles, who was prancing five feet away from her whilst breathing. Now imagine that, but on the scale of an entire book! The Stand was a pain to read. I stopped about half-way though it... Note to Mr. King- Just because a book is long doesn't make it your best book ever! That would be Pet Sematary, in my opinion. Either that or Desperation. Here be dragons ^ Dragon of the Day
January 6, 200917 yr Figured out an ending for Musical Crimes that will require me to start a new series. Most likely going to review Eyes of the Dragon, also by Stephen King. Richard Flagg must be God in the form of Legion. so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! (german ftw)I'm invulnerable to everything, except Lenin and Dragoonson. That's impossible. I love people.[/hide]
