Have you ever found someone you haven't seen for a while?

I wasn't sure what to make the topic name as. But have you ever searched for someone? You know, how those talk shows are sometimes? They'll unite family members, high school friends and so on, after alot of years? This is kind of personal to me; I'm actually trying to find someone I've never seen before-- half sister (dad's part). I never knew my father or anything about him, except his name and that he died when I was around two - three years old, so it's kind of hard. I didn't know I had a sister until last year. It's kind of a weird coincidence. My mother had talked about her just a few months before my grandma passed. We went to my grandma's funeral, and I saw her picture for the first time. It was her picture of when she was 10 month's old, with an easter basket, dated 23 years ago. That's the only picture I've ever seen of her; I just had a son last year, he's almost 7 months now and him and my sister look as if they could be twins. I guess she was adopted when she was real young (I'd guess she was 1-10 years old) and lived in Charleston, South Carolina. I've been contacting places alot lately, businesses that deal with finding people, but I haven't got anything through them. I've tryed adoption registries, vital statistics for SC, calling random people with her last name in Charleston and so on, but I haven't really gotten anywhere yet. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually been through this and found the person, so I may get some of idea of what I could do. Or if anyone is going through this-- trying to find someone-- now, also.

I'm not going to read all that in its current paragraph-less form, and so I don't know if this relates to what you said, but there was a girl I knew years and years ago who moved to Baltimore, and I was up there a few weeks ago and we saw each other at a stoplight.

Well, for me, I've never met any part of my father's family. I know I have half brothers and sisters, whom I've never met, which my father abandoned as he did me.

The whole point I've finding someone like this is to bring them into your lives. You have to ask, do you really want them in your life? I can't possibly say for you, for me though I see no need. What do we share? A couple of genes (understatement) but that's it. That's not family. Family are the people around you, near of far, who know and love you for who you are. A biological record doesn't account for family in my eyes.

As a result, I've never been interested in tracing these people so I wouldn't know how to start it if you wanted. The only advice I can give is to think if you really need them. If it's just to meet to put a face to a fantasy, the reality might be harsh and reveal someone not very nice at all.

You could say it's fearful but I choose it. The people I love are who I regard as family, not those with a long lost trace.

I agree with the family thing. It's not quite that, though. I feel as if I'm obliged to find her. I can't really explain it. Her dad abandoned her, as did he me, as far as I know. But my mom told me that her biological mom took her to a baby sitter's house one day and just left her, so the baby sitter adopted her. So with that, and me always saying I have only 4 brothers and no sister, makes me feel like I have to find her. She must of had a hard life if her mom really did do that. It's a little more intriguing seeing as she probably doesn't even know I exist. Maybe I'm just curious, or going through a stage, I don't know. I'd very much like her to be the sister I never had. Me, the brother she didn't know about. I know that's a slight possibility, but it's enough for me, because of the little I know about her-- she was pushed aside from everyone. I don't know one person from my father's side of the family. I've thought about meeting other cousins, aunts, grandma etc, but with my sister, the feeling feels multiplied a million times. Thanks for the good reply, though.

Well you answered my question emphatically, pal. Feeling so adamantlly about finding her will help you prevail and I really hope you do. But as I said before, I haven't attempted something like this before, so that's where my help ends I'm afraid.

I haven't actively gone out looking for people.

I'm about the same as most on the thread! I haven't tried looking for anyone, but have managed to come across a few people here and there that I haven't seen in a while! I actually just recently signed up to Hi5, an online friends network. Its amazing to see how everyone connects, and have found a few long lost friends on there too!

But I'm only 15, so I'm not sure if I actually count
