I am currently a tad annoyed by this. The Shades in the Shades of Mort'ton minigame are very annoying. Their melee attacks are a joke, they only hit me 1% of the time. It's that stupid Magic attack of theirs that gets underneath my fingernails. No matter what I try, it's impossible to block. Protect from Magic has no effect. Magic defense actually in the positives has no effect. Is there any way whatsoever to protect yourself from that annoying attack?

It's not like you ever had a choice to begin with.
