Well, it's art for a D&D campaign setting in the works, and I thought I'd put it up here.

There was a bit of post-process work involved to bring out some better colours. I'm pretty satisfied with the surface map, but constructive criticism would be good to have as well.

i'll just start out with what i like.

-the post processing. not much to say about that, the glow you added is nice.

-the terrain I like as well. its sort of rolling hills into a more mountanous scene down the road

-the surface map, mostly.

I also realy like the fog you got there, i've been trying to get the low fog to fit into one of my scenes, but ala's it failed :P

now, for why i said mostly on the surface map.

its still mostly the same grass+dirt combo we see alot. This is fine, and it looks good, but i feel like you can go the extra step.

- add little things. rocks on the ground, extra details, ect. (for example the rocks, maybe even do an SO overlay and use a rock texture, and just make it have little coverage :P

also, the grass is still just, green. if you look at grass, depending where you are, most likly you will see some shades of green-reds/yellows as well. I'm not sure about the campaign and where it takes place, but most of the time it realy looks nice t o have a tint of red into your piece.

however, i do like how the grass isn't just, a big color. i'm guessing you put it on high fractual noise and turned down the coverage? eh, correct me if i'm wrong.

anyways, for the most part i like it. the atmosphere is very nice as well :)

Actually, low fractal noise on the grass for the most part, with varying degrees of coverage.

I still haven't quite figured out how to use overlays, so I'll play with those next time.

ah, figured it was one of the other ><

overlays are fairly simple to do.

1. download the SOPlugin pack.

2. after installing and all, go to your texture you want to work with.

3. go to "tex" and then press the + and choose so overlay.

4. put in the size of your terrain in size. you want the other settings the same probaly.

5. just open up the texture into it.

and wallah :P I tend to use a lot of overlays now in my pieces, along with normal colors and such :) helps so much.
